My birds bask in UVA and UVB light which automatically is turned off and on by way of a timer. I purchased the timer so that I the light is automatically turned off and on because birds like routine, and because the bulbs are not cheap to replace. When I first purchased this set up, I tried turning the light off and on every day, but then I would forget some days and then on others I would come in late after working late, and the birds would still be up because the light was on. It is much nicer for me and my birds to have this light on a timer because birds love routine. Splurge a little, and make your little ones happy by getting them a UVA bulb and putting it over the cage. The light simulates the sunlight from nature, which your birds will love. My birds eagerly await for their light to come on, and sing joyful songs when the light comes on. I do not plan on going back to not having a UVA light above their cage any time soon.
