Birds need the calcium for feather growth, bones and to form the shell during egg laying. Many birds are grouchy if lacking calcium. This form gives easy access to the bird as it needs it. A must for egg laying birds especially. But should be offered to all birds as the minerals it contains are essential. Some birds never touch it but when the need arises those birds instinctively eat it. So don't worry if it seems they don't use it as it should be available for when they do need it. Many birds that eat a variety of greens and fruits require less as supplemental. That's why a lot of smaller birds that don't like their veggies always use their cuttle bones.

So be sure to keep one in the cage at all times. During a moult, egg laying and growing the bird will go to it.

This is a great source of calcium for aquatic turtles also but you have to peal off the glue backing because this can be harmful to the turtles. However, my turtles love it!
