We had one of these for many years then along comes Hurricane Katrina and blew it to smitherings. The lightweight aluminum pole twisted like a pretzel. Up until the hurricane we enjoyed watching the Purple Martins arrive year after year and raise many a family in this exagonal shape birdhouse. The protective rails is a plus as is the door stops. We do have other Martin houses now that a friend made for us but they aren't the exagonal design and no protective rails/door stops.

Beautiful Martin house, love these birds. My neighbor has one of these and we get to enjoy the birds with them. Everything needs cleaning when it comes to birds, and this is no exception. But if you're commited to the birds, you don't mind.

Our neighbor has one in his yard and it looks great, the birds are always going in and out of it. I have never seen him have to repair it.
