I got this book two weeks before I adopted my OTTB and it has been the single most helpful tool in helping me care for my new horse. It is chock full of important information from nutrition information and how/when/what to feed to understanding your OTTB and their behavior. It takes you inside the horses life at the track so that you can better understand why they do the things they do off the track. It teaches you how to build trust with your new horse so that you can retrain them to be the horse you want them to be. If you are thinking about adopting an OTTB you MUST have this book. I am new to horse ownership and this book has been very valuable to me and my horse.

this single most important thing about having a horse from the track is teaching him he know longer has to fun. i have always found that just pleasure riding calmly and easy is the best teacher and this renforces this. don't get excited or the horse will to and that means race mindet. be patient and read this great book carefully. again this book is common sense

This book is great! Has tons of info, and lots of little details that you don't think about in reference to a racehorses former life.
