This is a great oppurtunity for your well behaved dog to socialize with other dogs and people. At any given moment, there can be at least 20 dogs with very different personalities, energy, and supervision. These variables may very well be a cocktail for disaster. Therefore, it is important to pay special attention to your dog and the signal cues s/he may be giving. The dog park should not be a primary means of exercise for your dog. Your dog should actually be exercised prior to the dog park in order to reduce pent up and potentially dangerous energy. Your dog should be healthy and up to date on any necessary shots. This is only fair to your dog as well as his/her playmates.
