Are you kidding me?
I had our cars inspected in September and they passed however, the garage told me we were both going to need brakes and I was going to need tires before the snow flies.
And of course, we had to fill the kerosene tank so we would be warm this winter. Thank goodness we had just under a half a tank and to fill it was only $438.
I went the other day and got tires. $360 but, they are 60kmi Goodyear Eagles and I feel safe with them.
I have been trying to budget getting our brakes done so we could have those done before the end of the year. We may and I mean may, get Steve's car done but, not mine...Why????
I was doing my laundry today in an effort to get it done before hubby gets home with his.
I have dress clothes and wash them on the permanent press cycle. I had two loads, got those done, dried and hung in the closet. SO, I figured I had 2 small area rugs that I could do. I threw them in and continued to zootoo.
Well, I got involved and was not paying attention but, I did not recall hearing the washer spin out. So, I got up and checked...It was on the end of the cycle and I opened the lid figuring they were done and I would hang them on the line. RIGHT!!!! When I opened the lid, there was still soapy water in there. So, I turned the dial to just before the spin cycle and nothing. The timer was running and all I got was a hum.
I unplugged it, plugged it back in and tried running it again. It would agitate but, would not empty. I took the area rugs out and rinsed them in the sink. Wrung them out the best I could and brought them out on the line. Now, I have a full washer of water that I have to bail out.
I called the Appliance Guys up the road and told Jim what happened and sure enough....It will be just as expensive and wise to buy a new washer.
Thank goodness I get paid Thursday (I get paid every 2 weeks), so I can buy a new washer. Bills will get paid but, I wanted to be a little bit ahead! Not to mention, the holidays are coming.....UGGGGHHHHH! I am going to have a meltdown!!!!!!!!!!!

So, believe me, I truly understand what you're going through. Luckily, all of our kitchen appliances are covered (except the dishwasher which I only got a 2 year warranty on) so, we're good for another year with them and the tv.
Hubby is thinking about going into business for himself as we have no deductions anymore since Miss Priss is making too much money so...gotta figure something out! It's a risk but, there will be so many tax advantages if we do it.
Oh, and, as for the washer and dryer, they're about 3 years old or so and he hates them and next time I don't want all the bells and whistles, just a plain jane washing machine and dryer but, I must have a stainless tub in the washer and dryer. That was almost $1600 back when I got them too. Geez, what happened to buying a set of tires for $100????

The days of buying 4 tires for a $100...That was probably back in the 70's! lol

www.freecycle.org
www.freeuse.org
to help find a group or people in your area. basically, it's a bunch of people with stuff that they don't need or want looking to give it away, and people who could use stuff asking if anyone might happen to have that item to spare, all totally free. a little difficult to wrap your head around at first, i know, but i've been doing it for years. i've given away all kinds of odds and ends over the years and gotten some pretty neat stuff too, including, on one occasion, a car part that we needed. some freebies will be little things (i recently gave away a bunch of tissue paper i had left over from packing and moving), but people will give away some surprisingly good stuff, too. just a few days ago someone here posted their washing machine, in perfect working condition, because they'd gotten a newer and better one.
also, D.I.Y. can be really scary, but if you're feeling up to it, a good library will have books and / or online resources with instructions on how to fix all kinds of household appliances and cars. and if you know a mechanic, or know someone who is married to a mechanic...if you've got connections, sometimes if they're feeling generous they can order parts for you at a much cheaper price if you just want to make the repair yourself. i have an uncle who is a mechanic and we've done this with him a few times for minor things, like replacing a busted tail light and a screwed up door handle...things we can easily do ourselves and don't want to pay through the nose to have someone do for us, you know?
good luck! i hope your stuff stops breaking!

When it rains, it pours. HA HA--I got my new tires and brakes for my June inspection.
PS Don't expect those 60,000 mile tires to last half that long....

I guess I should not complain about the washer either. Hubby and me bought both that and the dryer during the summer of 2001. I can say it sure has done a lot of laundry over the past 8 years. It just died at the wrong time...
Hey, if you are going this week to buy your washer, I am most likely buying mine on Thursday. Do you want to get yours that day? Then we can say we washer shopped together! lol
So, does the washer count as changing shape if I use a sledgehammer on it?

I've been getting that new washing machine for years--don't you think Thursday would be rushing me a bit??? Eventually, I WILL get a new one, but I don't know what day. Sears has had specials almost every week, and the regular washing machines are supposed to be CHEAP(ER) now that there is going to be a "government rebate" up to $400?? on energy efficient models (that cost about $1000). So, maybe you should think about it, too. Waiting may pay off, if you can wait.

I have decided not to smash this one. The appliance people will take it away when they deliver the new one.
