Zootoo Thoughts

Like many, I joined zootoo for the contest and the real desire to help out the shelter I started volunteering for last July. I'd participated in a few fund raising events and one specifically was working to doing something for the feral room. While close to $5000 was raised, it is so clear so muchmore is needed. The zootoo contest was a chance.

I started reviewing everything I had in the house and realized my cats had way to many toys- mostly under the couch. But then I read reviews and found out about other toys and brushes and food and beds. My lucky cats found themselves test cases for new toys and video stars as they used them. Those that didn't quite make it went to the shelter. Lots of animals benefited from this contest!

I also started reading about other shelters. Learned more, first-hand, that there are some who see no-kill vs. shelters that must euthanize as an either/or situation. I also met some great people who always brought the conversations back to working for animals in whatever way we can.

I really enjoyed the news! Some of it was very disturbing, but other stories really lifted me up. I worried that some people defended animals and spoke out about generlizing breeds, while stereotyping people and cultures. But the forum allowed people to express views and again I was always glad to see voices cautioning against stereotyping.

I learned a lot and can't wait to see who wins (we're all winners because of the animals we save!!) and how the rescue group challenge plays out next.

I know what you mean about toys under the couch! I had put away a bunch of toys, huts, beds, etc., in the attic. I had completely forgotten about them until I came across reviews for those same items! In the course of over 20 years, I sure have tried a lot of toys, food, grooming tools, shampoos and conditioners, ear cleaners, etc.!

Jeanne:
I agree with you about learning so many things on zootoo through this contest. I probably would not have looked zootoo up had it not been for the contest. Zootoo is a great resource for so much information regarding the pet services and pet products. Now if my Mom's westie has a problem I can look up on zootoo to see what we can give her or what works best. Or if I need to find out something about one of Max Fund's animals, I will use zootoo or just use it to talk to people and trade ideas.
Like you I found the news articles both enlightening and disturbing. I forced myself to read the disturbing news because unless you know about these abusive issues, actions cannot be taken.
I am so glad I took part in this contest because of everything I learned.
I also wanted to say that you did a great job putting together the cat show on such short notice and with little events training. Jeanne, you are a great asset to Max Fund!
