We couldn't be more excited and nervous to welcome zootoo's President and the Humane Society to our little shelter. We are trying to let the whole community know they are coming to our little box on the hill, in the middle of nowhere.
I remember when that little shelter was a death senctence to almost every animal that entered its doors under animal control.I will never let myself forget the day I was knocking on the door and heard a dog literally screaming in terror, I called a PWP member at the time and was in tears over the whole ordeal, there were two people inside at the time who would not answer the door. I can't begin to say what was going on, we just knew at that time there was no giving up on this and we had to make changes. We don't have much but there are so many wonderful pets being rescued by working closely with other shelters, rescue groups, foster homes and the community as a whole, I just marvel at what can be done by such determined people.

These animals today come in and are given immediate medical attention. To a financial drain many dogs have been treated and saved from heartworm infections. They have been taken to vets and treated for conditions to numerous to mention but they are given real care now. Yes they have to sit in a small run or kennel but at least now they aren't being hosed down while in the kennel and left to sit on the cold floor in the winter, or a swealtering building in the summer. Thanks to volunteers and staff they are taken outside to a kennel to enjoy sunshine and the fresh air and playing with toys and being socialized. None of this was done or is possible without PWP and the many people involved.

This little animal control facility turned shelter has done so much with so little its hard to imagine what could be done if there was a larger place with the tools and equipment to house more pets, give them better care and be able to be a shelter that helps other groups. We don't know what it would be like to have those wonderful cats in a place all their own instead of cramped up with the dog's kennels. Oh and if there were runs for each dog outside, and plumbing that didn't leak, and electricity and telephone lines that actuall worked. Its a constant concern about wheather that little building will catch fire when someone is away. It would break all our hearts to loose even one pet that way.
I know all the other shelters need and deserve as much but I cannot help hoping and wishing and praying ours gets a much needed helping hand.
