why MaxFund ROCKS!!!

My first encounter with Maxfund came a couple of years ago when first looking for a companion for my dog Lola (also a rescue) and a boy dog for my fiance. First we had gone to the Dumb Friends League which turned out to be the WORST experience of my life. We adopted Buck first, and he did get along with Lola really well. They left out that Buck was extremely dog aggressive , but did let me know he was dominant. On top of this, when we asked for assistance in finding trainers, they were of absolutely no assistance. We eventually had to relinquish buck back to DFL at the insistence and threats of eviction from our then landlord. mind you this was after muzzling him among many other things we tried to do to keep him.

This is what brought me to Maxfund. The experience with Buck was crushing to me being that I was his parent and had tried to help him the best that I could. I only had him 2 months but loved him just the same. We then came across Phaeton who had been hit by a car before someone found him roaming the streets as a stray. He ususe his leg and the injury isn't painful, so they did not amputate. Right from the start he slid into family life relatively easily. Following Lola around although she was terribly annoyed at first. He fit in so well, we couldn't thank maxfund enough. We enrolled in just about every event of theirs and encouraged our friends to donate.

After having Phaeton for 1 1/2 years, it was time to get the last and final dog. I had just changed jobs and was in a position that allowed me to bring one of my pups to work. Being that all of this fell into place, I again turned to Maxfund to help me find my last and final. For this one, I decided I would take on a dog that is difficult to adopt. We looked a couple of deaf and blind aussie shepherds, but after seeing Charger's (aka Jasper) face on the website, I already knew he was the dog for me. We went to visit him at the foster parents house and was he just the spunkiest pup, full of big eyes and rambunctousness despite the fact that his 2 rear legs are paralyzed. I immediately called my fiance to come a take a look at hime, and this little rowdy boy won over his heart too. We decided as long as he got along with our dogs, he was coming home.

The dog to dog visit went swimmingly, although Charger was a little nervous at first. They eventually all ended up playing in the backyard and that made it a done deal. I'll never forget the first car ride to take him home. I place a blanket in my lap and he sat there in the driver seat. His upper body is overdeveloped to compensate for the back half that doesn't function. He grabbed my arm and pulled himself up quietly looking out the window until I got him home a let him explore the house.

If it wasn't for Maxfund, this pup that was only 5 months old wouldn't have had a chance. Because of his disability, he would've been put down immediately. Now, at 1 year, he goes to work with me once a week while his brother and sister go to daycare. He has a new "big boy" cart thanks to K-9 carts and he gets to go for walks every single day (his favorite thing to do is run). The volunteers at Maxfund let me know that it's okay if he was too much for me too handle that I could bring hiom back and he would stay at a foster home again. Well, never again. This little guy is home now. He amazes everyone he sees, even if he has his defensive bark going. He's finally learned to trust people with training, and when Dad's not home, everyone gets to cuddle on the bed and play and watch TV. his dad wrestles with him every night and gives him lots of scratches.

So, thanks for taking a chance on this little guy. I know he'd thank you if he could, but we thank you for letting him be a parrt of our lives.
