What a Journey

It has taken me until today to talk about everything that has happened. It all seems so surreal.Too hard to wrap my head around.
When Betty and I talked about entering the shelter makeover we weren't sure and set it aside until early December. We looked at it again, entered and then we were off and running.
There are so many memories that I love. The fun interacting with my dogs and cats for photos and videos. They learned very quickly the sound of the video camera coming on and knew it might be treats or toys, but whatever was about to happen it meant fun! All those funny and weird and angering news articles I've commented on really got me thinking about what a difference I could make here with legislation and in other ways. I tried new things, got reaquainted with things I forgotten about, and along the way had so much fun that fun seems to be an inadequate word.
March 31st came and it was nailbiting. I was up and watching everything, knowing we had done as much as we could. It truly was like the ball dropping in Times Square on New Year's Eve. At midnight we were there - the top 20! The phone rang - Betty of course - and we were all too excited to sleep!
There was no time to rest on our accomplishments as we needed to get ready for the site visit.
April weather is so iffy in Ohio, but it was a perfect day. I loved being up with the preschoolers from the school on the same grounds as our shelter. They played instruments and waved as the Zootoo crew arrived.
The presentations were so nice and I had the privilege of reading the letter of recognition from our Senator. Abby's paintings were a huge hit and though I am partial - I think some of her best work.
I went with the group through the trailers, then excused myself and made the rounds thanking everyone who had come. Our volunteers stepped up and had everything ready for the refreshments and anything else that needed to be done.
It was great for Betty to talk about our programs and help Richard, John, Dean and the Zootoo crew learn more about us and what we do.
The day ended with some of us getting together at Betty and George's for dinner and it was a fabulous dinner - as usual.
It was such a perfect day that I felt like at any minute I will wake up and it will be December and this will all have been a dream.
So far it has been quite a ride, but regardless of what happens I know that this journey will not end for us. And I know that I've found a place here with people like me who are trying to make a difference.

I have to say the whole product placement boxes we all shared. We all are usually set on which treats or toys are dogs will like and that is that. So to be able to trade and try new things was a blast. I would never have found Fromm, Cheese Place, Quiet Spot for tags and more. There were toys I thought the dogs would not like and by getting to try them first saved me money or caused me to spend money.
And yes, my dogs learned the words "product placement". Or even the site of the camera was enough for Alarm and Hrothgar. Differ was not sure about eating on camera. After all she is a diva.
The whole Zootoo experience was wild and I hope it stays that way just a bit longer.

I do think it brought us all even closer as a group and now we know so much more about everyone.
It has been soooo much fun and is still fun.
