Watching the Shelter Makeover videos

Good grief, I have tears in my eyes. It is so hard to watch all those shelter videos, and see scores of "unwanted" pets in cages. The one that really got me was the Parkersburg, WV identical-looking dogs all in one run together. Probably a group of puppies growing up together.

We've GOT to make sure that spay and neuter is affordable, available, and a reasonable option for people! I don't believe it is necessary to make it a law... in fact, we already have PROOF it isn't necessary. As education increases and low-cost spay and neuter becomes more of an option, the supply of adoptable dogs in suburban Chicago has DROPPED to the point where they now bring in dogs from other parts of the state! It is wonderful... it means there is hope for other areas IF they can just start working on spay and neutering.

As for me, I've helped Pets Without Parents make it into the finalists from a distance--- but I've also realized my calling. I went to my local animal control (McHenry County, IL) and discovered that they had started incorporating as a 501(c)(3) and they hope to provide no-kill shelter for all adoptable dogs and cats. I signed the volunteer paperwork the next day, so that I can help them help the animals!
