The Question: Why should the SPCA in Cattaraugus County get the million Dollar makeover.
The Answer: Simple (but complicated)
The SPCA started from being a kill shelter. Very uncaring and all about the money. Rumors were told back then "if you do it right theres money in this buisness" (doing it right meaning "killing animals")
After Kelly Chaffee got involved she changed all that. I've heard stories about how she 'died' a dogs fur color to fool her supervisor into thinking it was a different dog, so that it would not have to be euthansized. After she was giving reins she really changed that place into the shelter that our community all knows and loves!
This shelter has so much heart and compassion to take on size of twelve different states combines. They work so hard to make sure that every animal that is housed there... is housed with love and has a comftorable STAY until getting adopted.
This shelter has taken dogs from New Orleans,Best Friends, Buffalo Pound, people in NYC who couldnt find a shelter that wouldnt put there dog to sleep, and have VALUED supporters across the United States.
Our area is dry of income and people... but yet this shelter has valued supporters in California, florida, long island, NYC, ext. and has taken the heart of our own communtiy as well
Never has this shelter denied an animal in need. Even when people want to turn in their pets (which you obviously can't take them all) this shelter helps people find their animals new homes and gives them all their advice.
We have taken care of animals who the vet said to 'put down' because the cost for this animal was too expensive.. our shelter scrounges up & fundraises for this animal. In their eyes EVERY ANIMAL IS WORTH IT.
This shelter needs the makeover because not only do they not put animals to sleep, not only is the area a small community, Not only is the place oozing with compassion, but also this shelter needs the makeover because they dont have money for changes... because they do help those animals that no one else did & because this shelter is honestly and truly deserving.
The SPCA in cattaraugus County is not only a home for the animals, the heart for the animals in need, the place of best friends to volunteers and employees, but a sanctuary to our community knowing that animals in our area that need a helping hand whether 2 o clock in the morning or 9 at night will be safe.
