The Petique,our Gift Shop, serves many purposes, only one of which is raising money for the Shelter. Our most important contribution is to provide advice and products to help animals stay in their original home, or adjust more easily to a new home. We recommend crates and explain their proper use. We teach the role of enzyme cleaners in house training canines and litter re-training felines. We emphasize scratching posts, and cat nail trimmers so the cat is less likely to be declawed or returned for destructiveness. We fit collars and make sure animals leave with their identification tags. We explain Sensation Harnesses to owners who are being dragged, so they have humane, effective control over their dog. We make sure that the toys chosen are appropriate and safe for each individual pet. We emphasize the important role that toys, window perches, and cat condos play in a cat being content with an indoor life. And why living indoors is the best alternative.
Our Petique has one full time, and one part time paid staff, and 26 volunteers, who are indispensible. There is one problem, echoed throughout our building : We have outgrown our space.
