A shelter makeover cannot come fast enough! Yesterday, water began welling out of the wall in our kitten room, and today it started to come up from cracks in the concrete floor at our front desk. Turns out the galvanized water pipe installed when the original part of our shelter was built (1946) has basically crumbled away. Of course we found this out on a Friday, so half our shelter will be without water til at least Monday. Thankfully the City of Chico is going to replace the pipe for us without having to take up the entire floor. But this is just one small piece of a continuous fight against a failing facility that is much too small for our needs. Thank you to all the staff, volunteers and supporters who have put us in the top 20 - we need this now more than ever!!!
