No Days Off at "Our little shelter"

For the dedicated volunteers of the Humane Society of Madison County (HSMC) in London, Ohio, there is no such thing as a day off or an animal whose needs must wait until the next day, or the next "business day." Every day -- and every night -- these incredibly loving, loyal, knowledgeable people give their all for the animals. From Betty P. to Cindy, Julie, Ron, Donna, George P., Beagle Bill, Liz, Carla & Dennis, and many others whose names escape me, every animal at "our little shelter" receives the best of care. A forever home is sought for each. The "Prison Program," which helps young animals or dogs in need of social skills become adoptable, is a Godsend! We hold bake sales, events like Slobberfest and Bark Park, and each of us does what we can. It's ALL for the animals. Nothing is done for personal acclaim. The sole reward that drives everyone associated with the Humane Society of Madison County, is the health and happiness of the animals for the rest of their lives. Our county Dog Warden, an animal lover himself, is also an important contributing factor.

If I had but the words to paint a word picture of our little shelter, it would be a picture of blue and gray: Blue being the color of the tarps that cover some of the shelter's residents -- blue, the color of the sky -- and gray, the color of the chain link fencing and concrete blocks that currently provide the only shelter we can offer.

The colors I would like to paint for you are those of the sunrise, with all the hope of a new day dawning. Please help us paint the colors of the rainbow at our little shelter!
