I have a small zoo of my own. I have 4 dogs, 2 cats, and 2 iguanas, all of whom run the house. They just let me live there and feed them. Each and every one has their own story of how they needed homes (at which point, I wasn't looking for any of them, just have a soft heart).
As someone who has adopted 3 of my dogs from the shelter, I feel the Humane Society of the Ohio Valley should win for numerous reasons. The staff is so caring and do a wonderful job with the limited funding. Cheryl (shelter manager) is fabulous. She has a kind heart and the animal's best interest is her first concern. I realize the funding isn't there to maintain everything that is needed. They try so hard but struggle because of the funding. I'm sure the building was great in it's day, but time has taken it's toll. With a new facility, so much more could be done to help the homeless animals that have been forgotten, unloved and unwanted.
