Little Shelter of Huntington, NY

I work at Little Shelter of Huntington, NY and I wanted to express why our shelter should win. Firstly; the people I work with are wonderful people - outside looking in you see each person has a different type of personality that fits the "shelter puzzle" perfectly. Everyone contributes in a certain way and it's wonderful to see things work the way they do. I've never met a better group of hardworking and compassionate people in my life. We take in many dogs and cats that would have otherwise been euthanized. I was much taken back to see two families fighting to adopt a pit bull who had some neurological problems. If we had not taken that dog; it would have been euthanized that week. Stories like Sundance's <the pit bull> are not rare, quite contrary I've seen many animals come in very sick nursed back to health, missing limbs and eyes adopted to families, social issues corrected and food possession tamed. The staff and volunteers are very dedicated and I really just wish for their efforts to be rewarded. After visiting our establishment there is no way around our buildings are old and in need of better housing. The kennels have been chewed on, the spay/neuter building where the small/older dogs needs to be fixed with better living quarters. The property is HUGE and I see so much potential for our shelter I only wish it could be made possible by this contest. We have many connections not only on Long Island and throughout NYC; we have shelters we deal with in the south – and we always are squeezing to fit one more in a cage. We have the land; it just wasn’t built right to utilize that space in the first place. Best of luck to all the shelters; it’s hard to say which one deserves it more than another...I hope and pray for the best! Paws and Kisses, Christine Ciccarelli
