Keeping the Buffalo NY Area's Animal's Safe

Buffalo is a depressed area, yet we have an organized, well functioning SPCA, with progressive programs that are succeeding in lowering the number of unwanted pets being born. We educate children to respect animals. We train, socialize, and enrich the animals in our care to make their stay here more bearable, and their new home more likely to be forever. We teach adopters about animal behavior and care so their new family member remains one. We have Puppergarten for puppy parents, to start them off on the right "paw." We have a huge Wildlife program functioning in a tiny space. We share our ladies room with birds and reptiles of all shapes and sizes. We board animals for victims of abuse so that they can get out, without leaving their beloved pets behind. We house animals left homeless by fire, so their families don't lose them too. We spay and neuter every animal that leaves our shelter. We only euthanize the unadoptable. There are no time limits; no "death row." We have a full store, to help support the Shelter and start adopters with the right products at a fair price, and with practical advice. We repair the injured who come to us in our own infirmary, tiny as it is, to save the stress and expense of sending them out. We have a large foster program to hold on to those not well or old enough for adoption, or that we have no current space for. We have the Whisker Wag'n to take animals to people that don't come to the physical shelter. We have Off Site
Adoptions in local businesses to spotlight more pets. We have a program to visit Nursing Homes. We have an Educational Farm, where people can visit our resident pig, Henna - and various goats, horses, chickens, sheep and roosters. We house farm animals seized from abuse situations. I am sure I've forgotten some of our programs. With community donations our only source of funding, we owe our success to our wonderful community, volunteers, staff, Director, and Board of Directors. We are doing well, but we need more space and renovations, or we have hit a wall. We have vision, determination, compassion, support - We need to win this contest to fully realize our potential; to better serve the animals and their humans in Erie County, New York.
