"It's not a job, this is my life" - Liberty Humane Society's Video "A Pit For All Seasons"
I never thought a trip to the shelter could bring on such a change in my life. I made a complete 180 in the direction I was heading. A big, affectionate, loyal, and handsome pit bull sleeps on my lap as I type this. I just spent 8-10 hours tending to other pit bulls, spreading the word about Zootoo, answering questions over the phone about voting, in-taking animals, duplicating cage cards, updating files and records, laundry, and cleaning cages. Still, I have time for this pit bull, even though the chair is slightly too small for the both of us.
There isn't a day that goes by that I don't log into this site. This site has been an excellent communication tool. I've learned about so many different things here: people, animals, training, nutrition, wellness, fostering, etc. I've also gotten to know our volunteers in many ways. The learning from this site was tremendous, and the relationships that were built from all of the journals, comments, photos, and videos are what makes this job so rewarding.
There is something completely gratifying about going to work sometimes. Though it's not exactly a great thing to be literally in a room full of hungry and bored pit bulls, what makes it great is that each one of them are considered an individual. Each one has a name and a story. Each one is catered to in their own way, whether it be extra blankets, their favorite chews, a special ball or bone, or even a special collar.
There is so much love and care within the walls at LHS. Our mascot, Sweets, says it all. This is the best life she's ever had. Right now, this is the best life I've ever had, full of wonderful, loving creatures and people.
I hope we win this makeover. We have so many animals that depend on our care. Right now, it's a dream. I hope someday it becomes a reality.

I just keep imagining what Liberty Humane Society will be like with some upgrades and enhancements if we win the million dollar grand prize! Large runs out in the back is what I think of the most. Can you imagine being able to run the pits each day for an hour or so? They could go back to their crates tired out and ready to sleep versus anxious for someone to come and take them for a walk. HEAVEN!!!!
