Catt. County SPCA is a wonderful place

I was really energized by visiting the Cattaraugus County SPCA yesterday for the makeover tour. I was so impressed by the turnout and enthusiasm for a rural area with a relatively small population of limited means. The kids involved in supporting the shelter were amazing! They were enthusiastic, creative and extremely dedicated.

I also benefitted from listening to Richard's ideas about getting more people involved in supporting shelters. Apparently, the contest has raised awareness to an extent that has considerably increased adoption rates for many shelters....what a great start. It was gratifying to see that someone who has had such great personal success would then devote themself to sharing their blessings and knowledge in ways that will last. (I guess he could have chosen to sit on a beach for the next 40 years). I loved that he took an interest in getting bigger organizations with lots of resources to share their knowledge so that ALL animals can benefit.

In addition, he takes a great interest in low-cost or free spay/neuter services being provided so that more owners can be responsible. It's a shame when individuals really do love their animals, but can't provide the best care. So, I think that this is a really important aspect of improving animals' quality of life.

I was also impressed by the demeanor of Richard and his staff. He seems like a genuinely caring and humble person. I have always felt that the staff and volunteers at Catt. County are in it for the right reasons and that is one of my biggest compliments to them. I really got the same impression about Richard and am grateful for what he is doing.

Thank You!

I am always so amazed by what is accomplished by this woefully underfunded shelter. in need of a new roof, new kennels, new HVAC system, and yet they have to compete with shelters that have operating facilities that rival most Vet practices. I will never resort to pushing someone down to help myself get up. But looking at the video, and looking at what this volunteer army does for Catt Co and ERIE Co, there is no shelter more deserving.

The Latins would say Res Ipsa Loquitur...."it speaks for itself"
