I have a plea to Mr. Richard Thompson, although I did not have the gracious opportunity to meet you while you were in our historic town, visiting our humble shelter, greetings.
I have tried with many others to devote to a cause that I have found alarming as well as heart breaking. There are so many that have tried to keep our shelter on a volunteer basis, and with the efforts of all we have remained a no kill shelter, opening our homes to those that did not or could not be placed within our shelter. As large as some metropolitan areas are, they have been plagued with problems similar to ours. Economy, charitable contributions down and many of always being visionaries seeing what can be done working to make it a reality. Mr. Thompson, we have called upon our community, whom I think you found charming, and very supportive, to help as much as possible. We have had fundraiser dinners, our fur ball has been scheduled to take advantage of the third annual Red Fern Festival, garage sales, pond tours, and our new resale shop. We all have had devotion of helping our shelter maintain and stay in existence. It is far from being completed, and so much needs to be accomplished. I think you understand the primary goal is just to save lives and have a voice for those that can not have one. I really think our shelter deserves the make over, and I know how much it would help our community. It is heartbreaking to find a litter of pups abandon or stray. It is even more unbearing to see dogs or cats slaughtered by the roadside, because of being dumped. We have tried hard to voice a spay and neuter program. Those that work at this are so grateful to our local vets that devote so much. As any working with the cause, they are in need to. So why is our's so much more deserving, listen to all our emails, our solicitation of please, and know that these are very hard working people that want to make a difference on a shoe string, and have worked so hard to get even the shelter that is there today. Thank you for your consideration. The animals of cherokee county deserve to have a nice place in transition of finding new homes, and hopefully making a difference in people's lives.
