Austin Humane Society
Frances - from Kennel Manager to Executive Director
Austin, you have a great leader for your organization, you should be proud. We certainly got a Texas size welcome, but no barbecue! Frances and her volunteers certainly are full of the "Big Texas" enthusiasm and passion. We took a tour of the facility. They certainly had one of the best spay/neuter programs with the Texas A&M students. What an asset they have. They are land locked so any improvements they do will be internal. Or maybe they will get creative and find a way to use the roof top. We think the dogs will have a fine view from up there, and also a great opportunity for a sign location. They're making lots of community progress working with other organizations to improve animal control and welfare in the Austin area. It was great to see them bringing the community together to support the shelter in new ways like never before. Congratulations on being in the top 20. God bless all you Texans!

AHS has an awesome staff and volunteer program. I know we could do so many more wonderful things for the animals if we only had the means and space to do so.
Thanks for the opportunity to even get a chance at a make-over contest. It is a great thing that you all are doing. Regardless of who gets it, it still means that pets in need somewhere will be helped. Isn't that the overall idea anyway?
Thanks again!

It is a blessing to be considered for the top ten slots in this shelter make-over. Thank you again for your time and the hard work that you put in on behalf of the animals.

Thanks for coming to Austin. We appreciate your work and the opportunity to compete for the $1 million dollars. I like your idea of expanding the site upwards. Maybe we could build a partial 2nd floor and move the cattery up there.
And I can't not put in a plug - a win for the Austin Humane Society would be a win for the entire Austin animal community. The city has made a great start with our Mission Orange effort to become a no-kill city. I believe the number quoted yesterday was 12% fewer euthanasias last year compared to the year before. A shelter makeover for the Austin Humane Society would help us intake and adopt out more animals, moving the entire city closer to the point where no adoptable animal has to be euthanized.

Thanks so much for coming to AHS yesterday - we hope you enjoyed yourself! I just adopted a deaf pit bull from AHS in February and started volunteering in March. After adopting Bella and seeing how wonderful all the staff and volunteers were, I really wanted to be a part of it and see what I could do to help. The vibe around AHS is awesome and everyone does there absolute best to make sure all the animals are happy and healthy.
Austin loves its animals and we want to do all we can to support them in our community. Again, thank you so much for coming out and visiting with us!

The Austin Humane Society is very proud to have our shelter be in the top 20 shelters in the Zootoo shelter makeover contest. It was an honor to have you visit our shelter yesterday and have our community come together to rally us on. We all appreciate the generous opportunity that Zootoo has provided for some lucky shelter. We have found the contest has helped us build community awareness to zootoo.com and a definite camaraderie among staff, volunteers and our community to get more people involved in animal welfare and to be aware of the need to be involved. Once you get started with Zootoo.com it is somewhat contagious as you know!
I thank Zootoo for helping us build this kind of team spirit! I have no doubt it will carry on even when the contest is over.
Sorry we didn’t have bbq for you!
