A Shelter Makeover Accomplishes Much

A shelter makeover would make so many dreams come true for the Humane Society of the Ohio Valley (HSOV). It would free up money and time now being spent on the upkeep of an old building in need of much repair. It would make it possible to finally begin the process of meeting some of our many long-standing needs and goals such as on-site spaying and neutering, follow-ups on adoptions, more than one humane officer to cover the largest county in our state of Ohio, a proper shelter-wide efficient and much needed ventilation/cooling/heating system, a safer and more comfortable facility to house the never ending stream of unwanted pets that come through our doors. The huge, ongoing utility bills alone makes it difficult to get by on the meager funds we have to work with.

I believe a more up-to-date facility would also bring more potential, loving adopters of our many homeless pets. It would rejuvenate our dedicated but often tired and stressed out shelter staff, possibly making their work more stream-lined and efficient, thus freeing up precious time to give more one on one care to needy pets.

These are just a few of the things that could be gained if we no longer had to spend so much money and put forth so much of our time and efforts on the upkeep of an out-dated and poorly designed shelter facility.

Helping animals by doing what is needed to stop cruelty, abuse, neglect, abandonment and over-population is what a humane society is all about. When our attention can finally be diverted from the needs of a structure to the needs of animals (unwanted, abused, neglected and unaltered), both at the shelter and throughout our large county, we will be that much closer to reaching our highest of goals.

The Highest Goal: To see the day when animals shelters and humane societies are no longer a necessity.
