My DAWS experience

I started volunteering at DAWS a few years ago because I loved animals and wanted to help. I had adopted a few dogs from shelters in the past, and wanted to give back for the incredible joy these animals brought into my life. When I had this plan to start volunteering, I had no idea just how much went into animal rescue. I also couldn’t have imagined how much DAWS -– right here in my community -- had impacted animals’ lives in my area, across the country, even as far away as Puerto Rico! This crew is amazing. And to this day, I am continually amazed at the effort the volunteers put into DAWS, and their tireless efforts to make it a success. I immediately saw the most sincere dedication to anything I had ever witnessed, or anything I had ever been a part of in my whole life. I truly enjoy working with the animals, and I am very proud to say I’m part of this group.

I can recall my first few days volunteering at the shelter. While DAWS didn’t have much in the way of resources, funds or facilities, they made up in passion, dedication and care. Everyone and everything was well managed. They had thought of everything when it came to the care of the animals, the volunteer program, the dog training program, the adoption process, transports, fundraising and event coordination, and more…and to this day, this crew has never slowed down, has never been discouraged in the face of tight resources, or anything. I never stopped saying, “WOW!” I’m constantly amazed by what DAWS is able to do.

And priority number one is always the animals. Nothing is ever overlooked, and the volunteers never give anything less than their all to place each animal in the perfect, most loving, forever home.
