great deals on cat stuff
i don't know if this is temporary or long-term, and i even hesitated to mention it until i'd seen it in several different Dollar Tree stores.
around here, at least, Dollar Tree stores have started carrying Fresh Step brand litter box wipes as well as their litter fresheners in Lavender Valley and Mountain Forest scents. personally i'm not a big fan of adding powdery litter fresheners to traditional litter boxes, though i will put them in the drawer part of our Litter Robots since they won't end up all powdery in the air. but that really is a heck of a deal, because, as you probably know, nothing in Dollar Tree costs more than $1! i'm pretty sure i saw the litter box wipes for $3 or more at Target.
Dollar Tree stores also carry a number of nifty cat toys. a couple of years ago i bought a Cat Charmer toy, made by Cat Dancer. it's basically a clear acrylic wand with a long fleece ribbon on the end. it was a huge hit with my cats. for some reason they prefer the ribbon-type wand toys to the dangly-toy-on-a-string type wands. in any case, the Cat Charmer has gotten to be in pretty rough shape, and while it would certainly be worth $5 to bring my cats such joy, it seems like an awful lot to spend for a piece of fleece ribbon at the end of an acrylic wand. especially when Dollar Tree sells a toy that i almost exactly the same thing! and they're loving the Dollar Tree version every bit as much.
then lately in Big Lots, they've had quite a few toys and things made my 9 Lives. to me, the best one is the corrugated cardboard scratching boxes for just $3. most stores sell these things for more like $6, so when i find the 9 Lives scratchers for such a great price, i pounce! i've got a stockpile now! they also have a toy that is basically a rattly ball on the top of a spring with a round sisal scratcher as the base...also $3. i only got 1 because i wasn't sure if my cats would like them, but Spot as been totally spazzing out over this thing! they have also had the original Panic Mouse recently for just $10. they don't seem to have the replacement wands, though. i can't find those anywhere around here!!
and then there's the Purina pet foods deal currently going on at PetSmart.
i've seen commercials about this deal, and i'm 100% not sure about all of the details, but this is happening with cat food as well as dog food. specially marked big bags (16 or 17 lbs) or Purina cat foods at PetSmart currently contain a coupon for $5 off your next purchase at PetSmart. pretty cool. personally i feed my pet cats a good grain-free kibble, but then there are my ferals. normally my ferals eat "whatever's cheap", which usually means that dinky Everpet stuff that Dollar General carries. but when you factor in the $5 coupon, i can basically get my ferals Purina Cat Chow for what i normally pay for Dollar General cat food. it's still not exactly "premium", but at least it's a little bit of an improvement!

In regards to the cheap toys, you just have to watch that they don't contain those toxic dyes from China (or elsewhere).
