Paz Apparel and Cornerstone Pets to Collaborate on Eco-Innovative Pet Product Line
Paz, pronounced Pa-zh, meaning “peace” in Brazilian Portuguese is a line of rugged, utilitarian-chic green-design accessories. Hats and bags are fashioned from recycled canvas previously used from truckers throughout Brazil to protect their cargo. The accessories also use faux leather made by Amazonian natives from sustainable plant matter. Each piece of canvas comes with unique patches and markings that imbue it with character and echoes of past lives and stories. The entire product line, launched in November 2007 by the husband and wife team of Melinda Damico and Dan Fries of Weehawken, NJ is made in entirely in Brazil at a small, family-run factory.
Call it kismet. One look at Paz Apparel and I knew that a sustainable pet product line should be formed. Melinda is a vegan, avid animal lover, green activist and animal rescue worker. She has worked with Companion Animal Placement in Hoboken for 20 years and gave me the gift of my two beautiful mixed-breed dogs, Baxter and Basil. These rescued dogs became the inspiration behind creating Cornerstone Pets. A quick step into the future and we meet again, but this time, in an effort to create a pet product line that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Using the same recycled tarp and vegetable fiber currently used to create the Paz Apparel line, eco-innovation will define the pet product line from start to finish. By Fall of 2008 we plan to have available a line of leashes, collars, bags and pet accessories for the eco-friendly pet.
For a limited time we are pleased to offer Paz Apparel right here at Cornerstone Pets. It’s just a small sampling of what is to come.
