CREATION OF PhysiPet
(Pet Therapy)
I noticed my mom’s dog playing outside in the back yard, with a round object that I could not fully make out. Of course most dogs can find many things to occupy their attention, but this seemed very strange. She would carry this object to the top of a small incline in the backyard and drop it at the top. The object would roll down the incline and as it rolled my mom’s dog would pounce on the object all the way to the bottom and once it stopped, she would pick it up in her mouth and roll on her back and gleefully repeat the process again. The object she had in her mouth turned out to be a rock!
I noticed that all she wanted was a reaction from the rock, and the rolling was what she entertained herself with until we interacted with her. She focused her attention on any sign of life / movement from the rolling rock. She produced (kinetic energy) from gravity resulting in instant pleasure. The idea of the PhysiPet PT was inspired from this interaction. I had to find a way to keep the dog occupied without losing her attention and curbing her destructive tendencies from boredom.
Existing pet toys rarely move unless there is someone to throw, hide, or interact with the toy. There are some pet toys that require batteries and produce some movement, but most of these toys operate properly on hard flat surfaces not grass, sand, or concrete and not very durable.
The PhysiPet PT reacts to the pet’s output. If the animal pulls on the toy it will pull back. When the animal releases the attachment, the toy will recoil and sway providing chase and play. The most reliable reaction from the toy will be tug-o-war because of the patented internal mechanisms, there will be adequate resistance for pulling and exercise. This toy is not one directional like playing toss and fetch, it allows the pet to provide entertainment on it’s own.
With the increasing number of pet owners and related consumables from pet insurance to doggie face-lifts, the pet market will continue to expand and grow. There is a definite need for the introduction of a device that will not only occupy the dogs attention, but stimulate it physically as well. This product has been tested at Doggie Daycare centers throughout Canada and the U.S. Be a part of the health conscious pet community with the PhysiPet PT.
