Well who knew that putting a lighter colored crate pad in there would make him actually go in? Animals slay me. Anyway, he's using it here and there. We have not actually kept him in for an extended length of time yet but I think it will work.

there is an excellent book out there by Temple Grandin titled animals in translation. good read, easy to get thru but i had to digests it a few pages at a time.
