What would Wiggles want me to do

if, God forbid, something like this happened to him? Regarding Lagodi and the mistake that caused his death

I will likely catch a lot of flak for this, but I can almost hear the giant sucking sound as megabucks, which could be helping so many deserving and needy dogs and cats, are diverted into the pockets of lawyers. Mistakes happen. The shelter will bear that shame for its mistake for a long time. That death, while tragic, will make a lot of people pay a lot closer attention to the goings on of that and other shelters, so that dog did not die in vain.

Sure, there's a place for litigation, but preying upon the raw emotions of families who've just lost a family member is reminiscent of 'ambulance chasing.' If the family members that have met with an accidental early death could talk, what would they want us to do? Spend more money after the fact through litigation? How does that help?

If anything, having legislation on the books to spell out -- through procedural law -- how such situations must be handled, would be, IMHO, far better than helping lawyers drive fancier cars or live in bigger mansions. Call me cynical, but as a realist, it seems to me that the dollars could be far better spent in patient advocacy: we speak for our animals, whether their situations are the result of our inattention, a glitch at the local shelter, something gone wrong at the animal hospital, etc.

This is not a perfect world, but our beloved family members and those of others, should not suffer our memories of these special pets by dragging them through the court system.
