Oprah on puppy mills

I saw Oprah when she did her show on puppy mills. My heart was broken. My poodles have had puppies in the past and I had sold them to people I know. I even offered to groom them for free with the condition they would take care of them and give them the best life possible. I would ask them, how are the babies? They would come out with some stories like they were stolen or they passed away. I would feel bad and cry. When my Dominique had Giovanni and Anyah, I thought about getting them good homes. I have kept them and decided to take on the responsibility of taking care of my five poodles. It hasn't been easy. But I rather give them the life they deserve. I had offers to buy them from me. But I would not feel they would have the life I could give them. But I would not breed them for a profit. Dominique is the queen of this castle and is treated like royalty. She gets special treatment. Not locked up in a cage and just have her to breed for profit.

We should take care of our dogs and the ones that don't have homes. I urge anyone to take a pet. It changes your life and prolongs your life. They don't ask for much. Just food, water, kept clean and they will give you so much more in return.

Adopt a pet and let's do something about these puppy mills.

Again I breed for me not to pass on to others. I have many friends that do the same and I have clients who adopt. I am a part of this campaign. I encourage. That my dogs breed for me is my perogitive. I feel for those who are not fortunate. I donate to the shelters. Part of my grooming proceeds go to the shelters. I educate. I do my part. I get to sleep at night. My dogs are well taken care of and I help those less fortunate. My point was that there are people who breed for profit. Not for companionship and love. Now I feel like I am being attacked when no one knows how much I care for animals. There are people who own dogs and can't afford to groom them with companies like PETCO. I offer the same services for a much affordable price just to see these dogs look & feel good. Again, I don't need to tell everyone what I do on my end. But in this case, I do. Sorry for giving you the wrong impression.

It sounds like you are a very loving concerned pet owner. But I have to agree with a previous comment, that is please reconsider breeding your dogs again or any other dogs in the future. There are so many dogs that are in need of homes (including Poodles & other purebreds). My suggestion would be for you to volunteer at a local shelter or rescue. Put you love, concern and knowledge to use educating others so that more people will care like you do.

I worked for PETCO. The animal shelter would bring in dogs for people to adopt. I would be right in there trying to get homes for them. I do my part Deborah. I would get some of those people in to the store and give them discounts and coupons for their adopted pets and to encourage more people to adopt. I do not need to volunteer I have already and give these people who adopt options, to better these pups and stray dogs homes. There is a new shelter being built in town. I think my community is fully aware of what goes on. I see strays on the street getting killed every day. I try to rustle them and get them into the system to find homes. Sorry, I do my part. I hate to ask this, What do you do?

I am very glad that your poodles are indeed treated beautifully and of course they are members of your family. How wonderful! I would, however, like to express my opinion that there should be a temporary hold on further breeding altogether until all of the stray, abused and shelter animals in the world have been adopted. Why do we need to make more when there are MORE than enough fabulous and wonderful creatures up for adoption who are in desperate NEED of acceptable families?

This is, of course, JMHO.

Reading what you wrote made it all so true. I also watched the Oprah show and about the Puppymills. I had no idea that the majority of the Pet Stores deals with the puppies that comes from Puppymills. I know now that I will never get any dog from a pet store, I will adopt from pounds and Animal Shelters. Because when people get pets from pet stores, they are just helping the people that own these puppymills line their pockets making them money even though the poor dogs are the ones that suffers. I have 6 dogs and it is not easy to take care of this many with vet bills, etc. but I wouldn't give them up for anything. They all came from unwanted homes and from unwanted litters. They are part of my Family, and you can't get rid of Family. There should be more people like you out there. Thank You for sharing your story about your dogs.
