STATE LAWMAKERS ARE WORKING ON A BILL THAT AIMS TO PROTECT BOTH ABUSED CHILDREN AND ANIMALS IN ILLINOIS.

THE THOUGHT IS THAT IN MANY HOMES WHERE CHILDREN ARE ABUSED...THE PETS THERE ARE ALSO BEING HARMED AND VICE VERSA SENATOR DON HARMON EXPLAINS THE LEGISLATION.

THE SENATE HAS ARROVED A BILL...AND IT WILL BE DEBATED NEXT IN YHE HOUSE.

AT THE STATE CAPITAL...I'M KIM HOWARD.REPORTING FOR THE ILLINOIS INFORMATION SERVICE. BROUGHT TO YOU BY N.A.P.A. NATIONAL ANIMAL PROTECTION AGENCY. {MAKE THEIR VOICE BE HEARD!!!} THANK YOU, "PETPATIENCE"

Well - it's a start. what this bill actually appears to be is a requirement for "cross reporting" so that if an agency is investigating or becomes aware of abuse that they report it to the "other side of the house" so to speak. In other words - if child welfare suspects animal abuse they report it to the animal welfare folks and vice versa. Now it just needs to make it through the House and then I suppose it will have to get a signature from Governor Goofy to become law. Lets hope that it passes!

Here is a link to the Illinois general assembly website describing the bill. http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/billstatus.asp?DocNum=2851&GAID=9&GA=95&DocTypeID=SB&LegID=37575&SessionID=51
