All Pit Bulls Seized and Killed!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really need the help of the Zootoo Community.
Our Ohio Representative Tyrone Yates just introduced a House bill 568. This bill will be to completely ban Pit Bulls or any bully type or any dog remotely looking like a bully from the state of Ohio. He already achieved this in his City of Cincinnati.
If the bill passes, these owners will have 90 days from the effective date to find another place outside of Ohio for their pets. If after that time period and you have a pit bull, it will be taken from you and destroyed. The bill even gives the right for a search warrant to be used if need be. There will be no warning, no justice, no innocent until proven guilty. Also no pit bulls will be allowed to leave a shelter even to go into a rescue in another state.
You can read it at
http://www.legislature.state.oh.us
Sec. 955.111 would be the new part of the law.
I am completely in shock over the fact that this could become a law. And if they get this breed passed, what is next. German Shepherds, Rotts, Dobs, Huskies, Mals, Chows, etc. I could go on and on here.
I personally own two pit bull mixes. They have never bitten, are good dogs, and I consider them my kids. I would move out of state before I would kill my pets. However, how many folks will not be able to afford to up and move out of state. Not many. So if they have a pit bull that is a family member, they will have to find it a place or it killed.
I am asking every Zootoo person, "if you believe it is wrong for the whole state to ban pit bulls to please help". Even if you don't live in Ohio, please email any of the Ohio State Representatives.

Please take one minute and write to one of these reps and tell them that this is not the proper way of handling problems with animals.
List other things they should be working on to help with the animal problems.
Mandated spay/neuter
Ban tethered or chained dogs
Ask them for new stronger laws on animal cruelty.
Tell them
The number of tax paying citizens who will have a family
member ripped from their home and killed even if the dog is very friendly.
What about a new family who moves into Ohio and does not know the law. That dog can be taken immediately and destroyed. They will claim, it is the law and you should know it before moving here.
Who will pay for the cost to destroy all those dogs.
For more thoughts or examples

I can tell you that if this law passes, the neighboring states will be slammed with 100's of thousands of pit bulls from families hoping to find a safe place for their pets.
I am begging for help. I would like to know if you do email any of the Ohio house reps as we are trying to track the number of emails, phone calls or letters.
Thanks for the help.
Betty

We need facts to present to the public and to the government. We need to keep emotion out and fight the fight for those who can not speak for themselves, the animals.
And I truly believe, the day will be coming soon that the animals will be treated with respect or the offender will face major charges.

I just added another Journal titled "More Facts for Lawmakers in Regards to Pit Bulls.
Randy of Stray Rescue of St. Louis had emailed me some wonderful information, all of it facts. I asked him if we could put it in journal form for all to read and he said yes.
Please read it and use some of the information there.
Also let the Ohio reps know that if you live in Ohio, you will take your tax paying butt and move. And if you don't live in Ohio, tell them that you will make sure if the bill passes, you and your state will gladly welcome the tax paying citizens of Ohio to move into your state.
Thanks to all who is helping with Saving the Ohio Pit Bulls and their families.

And if they can get a bill like this passed in Ohio, why not other states.

you are doing the right thing for these wonderful animals. These animals should be allowed to live just as much as we do and the governement is always trying to find ways to make life miserable for the animals. I'll do my best, even though I don't live in the state of Ohio. I live in West Virginia. Good luck and if you need any more help, just let me know. My e-mail address is Dochristi3@aol.com.

I know I could get the zootooers to jump on it. We need to flood their email and regular mail boxes with letter against this bill and what we really want to see be the law.
Mandated spay/neuter, no more puppy mills, stricter laws on animal cruelty and dog fighting.
Thanks barb.

I agree this is not the solution to the problem. Brainstorming is required by voters to show the elected officals that there is a better way to handle this.

The out pour from several of the zootooer is amazing. Randy with the strays just sent me some major ammo to use and bet your bottom dollar, I will.
Also make sure your sister send an email out. I am hoping that the reps will be slammed with thousands of emails.

What kills me here,is that yes, they can wipe out the Pit Bulls and the other Bully Breeds, but who will be next,as you know the gangs, the dopers, the people out there that prey will just find another breed to ruin. Our government needs to focus on the real bad people here. Tougher laws, bigger fines and actual jail time.Put their names in a criminal Data Base that shows that they can not own or have any thing to do with an animal.
My tax dollars pay whether I want them to or not,so i should have some say in it all.
I'd rather pay to see an animal abuser spend time in jail than pay for 2 gang members that tried to kill each other.

There are so many more things that they could make laws on. Mandate spay/neuter, getting rid of gas chambers which we still have here in Ohio, stricter laws on animal cruelty, stricter laws on dogs running at large or not having a county dog license, if caught abandoning their animals and so much more.
And if they do this to Bully Breeds, next will be another breed or worse yet any dog over 50 pound, then 30 pounds, then any dog period.
It just shocks me more than anything when some congress person gets a wild hair and writes a law like this. And sad, but there is about 30% of the dog wardens in Ohio that are for this law.

I not only emailed my rep but the speaker of the house, the majority whip, and about 5 other ones. It is completely appauling that they would do this.
And if they do this to pit bulls, what breed will be next. More than likely any dog over 50 pounds, then it will go to any dog over 30 pounds and more.
We need to make sure this bill does not pass.

This is why I am asking anybody who is an animal lover to send an email. Don't care if you are from Ohio or not, send it. Cause I can guarantee that if it passes, neighboring states will be flooded with pit bulls in their shelter if the owners in Ohio can not keep them. I for one will move out of state.
