All Pit Bulls Seized and Killed!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really need the help of the Zootoo Community.

Our Ohio Representative Tyrone Yates just introduced a House bill 568. This bill will be to completely ban Pit Bulls or any bully type or any dog remotely looking like a bully from the state of Ohio. He already achieved this in his City of Cincinnati.

If the bill passes, these owners will have 90 days from the effective date to find another place outside of Ohio for their pets. If after that time period and you have a pit bull, it will be taken from you and destroyed. The bill even gives the right for a search warrant to be used if need be. There will be no warning, no justice, no innocent until proven guilty. Also no pit bulls will be allowed to leave a shelter even to go into a rescue in another state.

You can read it at

http://www.legislature.state.oh.us

Sec. 955.111 would be the new part of the law.

I am completely in shock over the fact that this could become a law. And if they get this breed passed, what is next. German Shepherds, Rotts, Dobs, Huskies, Mals, Chows, etc. I could go on and on here.

I personally own two pit bull mixes. They have never bitten, are good dogs, and I consider them my kids. I would move out of state before I would kill my pets. However, how many folks will not be able to afford to up and move out of state. Not many. So if they have a pit bull that is a family member, they will have to find it a place or it killed.

I am asking every Zootoo person, "if you believe it is wrong for the whole state to ban pit bulls to please help". Even if you don't live in Ohio, please email any of the Ohio State Representatives.

Please take one minute and write to one of these reps and tell them that this is not the proper way of handling problems with animals.

List other things they should be working on to help with the animal problems.
Mandated spay/neuter
Ban tethered or chained dogs
Ask them for new stronger laws on animal cruelty.

Tell them
The number of tax paying citizens who will have a family
member ripped from their home and killed even if the dog is very friendly.

What about a new family who moves into Ohio and does not know the law. That dog can be taken immediately and destroyed. They will claim, it is the law and you should know it before moving here.

Who will pay for the cost to destroy all those dogs.

For more thoughts or examples

http://www.animallawcoalition.com

I can tell you that if this law passes, the neighboring states will be slammed with 100's of thousands of pit bulls from families hoping to find a safe place for their pets.

I am begging for help. I would like to know if you do email any of the Ohio house reps as we are trying to track the number of emails, phone calls or letters.

Thanks for the help.
Betty

I cannot understand why Yates would think this is the solution to solving the problem of people having aggressive bully breeds. It's not the fault of the dogs, they are obedient and follow the commands of their owners. The people who have bully breed dogs should be fined and put in jail as opposed to the dogs being killed. What's next, a German Shepard, Doberman Pincher or Rottweiler? Well I think it's ridiculous, the animal should not be killed over something it doesn't have control over. Anyone who wants the bully breeds to be gone hasn't met a bully breed. If a Pit Bull, Bull Terrier or Bull Dog is raised correctly, then there wouldn't be any issues. If you've never met one of these dogs before, take a chance and get to know the type of dog before making judgments because of a bad reputation.

I wrote to the animalawcoalition in responce to this shocking story. Oh, if it were only that. . . a story. More like my worst nightmare. I own, no I have the privledge of sharing my life with a Bull Terrier. There would be no wat in hell you would seperate my beloved pet from me. What on earth are these poor people of Ohio going to do if this gets passed? What would that say about our humanity? there is no KIND in mankind if such a greevous act gets passed!

Contact PETA, believe it or not, they may help with letters, or post it on their site. Also contact AKC for help. The AKC will even send you a packet to help with such situations. I have received a packet myself to help fight for the Rights of Rottweilers!

I have written one of the reps and will continue to do so at least once a day.

I emailed everyone on the list even though I live in NY. Hope it helps. One thing I said is if Pits are banned, there will be another powerful breed that will replace them. Like Cane Corsos who people say jokingly are Pits on steriods. What then ban them too? Another will replace them, and on and on. Banning is NOT the answer.

When are law makers going to figure out we need more and better laws to keep the human beings responsible not the animals. Hello!!! Parents are legaly responsible for their children aren't they? Hopefully the voters with animals will speak up. Pitbulls are not even the number one dog blamed for attacks. I think the lawmakers should be tied to a chair and forced to watch the Dog Whisperer about dog behavior.

This is just another form of raceism. It is sad to know that we have such IGNORANT people representing us. What most people don't understand is that it won't stop with bulldogs. They are just the breed in the spotlight right now. I don't live in your state, but you are more than welcome to send this comment to your representitives.

Thanks for informing me of this. I don't have pit bulls, but they are animals for christ's sake! They shouldn't be treated like pests! Once I am able to get a dog I would not be adverse to getting a pit bull, they are adorable and loving from my experience. I have e-mailed every politician you provided. I live in Indiana and I don't want our legislation getting ideas from this, or our shelters flooded with even more homeless animals! Good luck!!

Lived in Ohio many years! Once folks get their minds made up - ya just aren't going to change them with out a steady battle. The Pit bulls in the shelters are destined to a death sentence! Period! People who own the Pits will be penalized through homeowner's insurance, etc. It's the same down here in Florida. People Like Vicks,DMX (?) do not make the issues any easier. Kudos to you girl. I hope the people of Ohio back you and your endeavor. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. Am fighting animal laws down here! It is time consuming! Git 'R Done!

I am one who believes that Richard's dream of a Million Army of animals needs to come true. And that army is used to fight the laws that govern our pets and the animals in general.

We need facts to present to the public and to the government. We need to keep emotion out and fight the fight for those who can not speak for themselves, the animals.

And I truly believe, the day will be coming soon that the animals will be treated with respect or the offender will face major charges.

Just had to send heartfelt thanks to Betty for working so hard on this issue. With all of us having such busy lives its hard to find any free time. Betty has gone above and beyone to help these pit bulls and should be commended on it. Kudo's to Betty and her love of animals for fighting so hard to save them and let them remain in their homes. We all owe it to the animals and Betty to help with our support. Betty without your hard work and love of all pets they would have no help at all. A big thank you from a Non Pit Bull owner.

I'll get on it as soon as possible over here on the East side of Ohio!

let me guess this man who started this either owns no pets, or had some bad experience with one. but, this type of just picking out a breed (when we know it's the owners who breed the fighter dogs). is in it's own way letting government come into our homes and say what type if any animal or pet we may or maynot own. once you allow government to make anytype of bill killing all of anything. what's next?

He is from the Cincinnati area who has already banned pit bulls in the city there and several of the suburbs. So I am sure he is trying for the state. He is also up from re-election. I am sure this is his whole "ticket" for re-election. The whole " I am trying to make it safe for you" campaign.

Please remember to be polite when emailing or writing the Ohio Reps. We need to state facts as much as possible.

I just added another Journal titled "More Facts for Lawmakers in Regards to Pit Bulls.

Randy of Stray Rescue of St. Louis had emailed me some wonderful information, all of it facts. I asked him if we could put it in journal form for all to read and he said yes.

Please read it and use some of the information there.

Also let the Ohio reps know that if you live in Ohio, you will take your tax paying butt and move. And if you don't live in Ohio, tell them that you will make sure if the bill passes, you and your state will gladly welcome the tax paying citizens of Ohio to move into your state.

Thanks to all who is helping with Saving the Ohio Pit Bulls and their families.

Betty - Thanks for providing the names and address to contact. Although I do agree that some dog breeds are more dangerous than others, it is not the dog it is the owner of the dog that ultimately determines whether or not it is a mean dog. Under the wrong circumstances, all dogs (including poodles) can be trained to be agressive or attack. The same is true that all dogs (including pits, german shepards, rots and any other large breed dog) can be trained to be sweet and loving and not agressive. Although I live in West Virginia and do not know if my letters will be of any help, I will for certain write and copy all on the list a letter asking that they do not support the ban on pits and wish you luck with this campagne. And if everyone could remember to write without hostility, it will probably get more positive attention. Remember you can catch more flys with sugar than with vinegar.

Hi Viv, You letter does count. You are our neighboring state. If this bill were to pass, your state along with other neighboring states would be flooded with pit bulls because some folks might not be able to move, but don't want their pet killed.

And if they can get a bill like this passed in Ohio, why not other states.

THIS IS INSANE! First its the people that cause the dog fights NOT the dogs! I am so mad. I have emailed any and all and have passed this family in other countries even to email the Ohio reps. How be we just ban the reps for the state and leave the dogs alone. Oh sorry I am so mad. Count on me for help. Dogs only know what we humans have taught them, and sadly there are alot of idiots in this world, Mike Vic being the "poster child" for one. Emails and snail mail from me and my family for sure. I am sorry for all the pit owners. THis is discrimination any way you put it. Freedom? Seems like that is a past term for the people of the USA. We are having our rights i.e. freedoms, speech, choice etc taken away daily. Stand up people, zootoo'ers and pet owners and non pet owners. We have to stop this stupidity! ( sorry I am furious here!)

Thanks clslay. Not only am I mad, but scared to death. I want to make sure this bill is crushed. If not, I will be moving into a pit friendly state.

So any help would be great.

You may do so as well.

Betty, sorry my keys are going crazy on puter.. I hit one and it does a different letter? Sorry bear with me. I have a question? This is clearly unconstiutional. Where is the AKC or the ASPCA? This breaks our constiutional rights totally. Its murder in my book to boot. I just wonder where the ASPCA etc are and how they are reacting to this. Where are the civil liberty lawyers etc? Pets are People to in my book. Something has to be done. This is the time we ALL have to Gather together as one and act. Sitting back thinking others will do the letters, the calls etc, just wont work. IN something such as this it will take every single stroke of a pen to help these babies. Every outlet, any and all lawyers, organizations have to be called upon for this. Its a shame that due to someone without knowledge of a certain breed has the power to do this. Its just insane. I will do my part plus. I am so baffled that this even got this far. What happens if the next rep decides he doesn't like poodles or collies? What then? For petes sake. We have to handle this with kit gloves but yet get the point across. I just can't believe they are trying to pull this off much less gotten this far. What has this great and glorious Country come to? Please everyone write, call, email and write snail mail. Fax even. Every single thing you do counts, it really does in a case such as this. Bless you Betty for informing all and working so hard to get the word out. I hope you keep zootooer's posted on this. I for one will be waiting with baited breath to hear how this goes.

Hi Betty
I have been blasting this on my ASPCA and Pitt Bull Communtiy Blogs and any other blogs I have.

Hi Betty,
you are doing the right thing for these wonderful animals. These animals should be allowed to live just as much as we do and the governement is always trying to find ways to make life miserable for the animals. I'll do my best, even though I don't live in the state of Ohio. I live in West Virginia. Good luck and if you need any more help, just let me know. My e-mail address is Dochristi3@aol.com.

Hi Betty
My mutt seems to have alot of Rottweiler and some pit bull in him so I am a little ticked off by this law. I semi politely emailed every one of them. Hope it helps

Just remember in Ohio any pit bull or pit bull type dog will be destroyed. So if animal control officers who believes it has more pit bulls, it will be destroyed.

Thank you for the heads up. I have politely emailed every one of the eleven contacts on your list and will be forwarding your entire message (links included) to fellow rescuers. I'm not in your state, but my state too has been considering a breed ban. We all need to work together to educate our lawmakers!

I will be writing letters also Betty,,,,,,,,Pitbulls are a friendly fantastic and beautiful dogs. Its the people who breed and train the to fight are the ones that are causing all this grief and the pitbulls are the ones that are to suffer.
This is a shame!!!!!!!

Hi, I just sent emails to about five of your reps. This is an important thing you are doing, don't give up! We need to stand strong against BSL!!!(bull sh-- legislation if you ask me!)I live in a neighboring state and live in fear that this will come about here also! We have to stop it now! Soon there won't be a dog left in this country. I'm with you, I am moving if BSL comes here.

Sandy, Ohio already has breed specific restrictions. Now they are talking complete ban. Both of which are not needed in any state. Thanks for emailing your thoughts to the reps. I hope more folks do this.

this is bullshit!!!! pits get a bad rep 4 fightin when its not the dogs fault its the owners the owners need to be arrested and punished maybe the owner should get put in a small pen and fight to the death to c how they like it no dog is initally mean its owners who make them that way whoever thought of this law should b shot in there damn head this is extremely messed up pit's r not bully dogs thats my statement and i'm stickin with it

Betty - I had already passed this info to all of my volunteers earlier in the week. We are all writing letters. This is just unbelievable that the policitians of this state can't find something better to make into law. But of course, the animals can't vote. That is why the people of zootoo are a great help in situations like this. Great idea to put all of this information on here!

Thanks Barb. I know Marcello of zootoo emailed me and told me he sent this into to the pet pulse news folks. I am sure with it being a holiday, we might not see a story. But I really hope Zootoo pet pulse does jump on this.

I know I could get the zootooers to jump on it. We need to flood their email and regular mail boxes with letter against this bill and what we really want to see be the law.

Mandated spay/neuter, no more puppy mills, stricter laws on animal cruelty and dog fighting.

Thanks barb.

11 letters have been printed and enveloped and will be mailed before I leave for holiday.
I agree this is not the solution to the problem. Brainstorming is required by voters to show the elected officals that there is a better way to handle this.

Betty, have also sent out 2 emails to the top 2 on the list will also work my way down the line. This is uncalled for. As has been said, there are no bad dogs only bad owners! I personally do not own a Pit but my sister does. Funny how when someone walks in her house their first "thought" is of fear, shows on their faces. The most she would do to anyone is "lick them to death" Pits as Rotts and Dobys, etc, etc, get a bad rap BECAUSE of their training/abuse from some handlers. that doesn't give "government" the right to label them dangerous. I have also expressed time, effort and money is better spent on responsible pet ownership education and prosecution of the owners who abuse the animals to make them dangerous animals thru no fault of the animal. What has become of our "freedom"

Thank you Patty.

The out pour from several of the zootooer is amazing. Randy with the strays just sent me some major ammo to use and bet your bottom dollar, I will.

Also make sure your sister send an email out. I am hoping that the reps will be slammed with thousands of emails.

watch this vid on youtube trust me it'll help those coldhearted s$$***** if ya kno what i mean

<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ob5Vin7KxkM&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ob5Vin7KxkM&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

I also left a comment on Ladybug8's journal. Have e-mailed all your reps already and will inform my sister. As we know once the ball starts rolling it's downhill all the way!

I just sent two Emails out to both Chris Widener, and John Husted, and if I get some more time I'll continue on down the list.
What kills me here,is that yes, they can wipe out the Pit Bulls and the other Bully Breeds, but who will be next,as you know the gangs, the dopers, the people out there that prey will just find another breed to ruin. Our government needs to focus on the real bad people here. Tougher laws, bigger fines and actual jail time.Put their names in a criminal Data Base that shows that they can not own or have any thing to do with an animal.
My tax dollars pay whether I want them to or not,so i should have some say in it all.
I'd rather pay to see an animal abuser spend time in jail than pay for 2 gang members that tried to kill each other.

Thanks 3devinecats for emailing the reps. I really do appreciate it. I am hoping that when they all get back to their offices on tuesday, they have over a thousand emails.

There are so many more things that they could make laws on. Mandate spay/neuter, getting rid of gas chambers which we still have here in Ohio, stricter laws on animal cruelty, stricter laws on dogs running at large or not having a county dog license, if caught abandoning their animals and so much more.

And if they do this to Bully Breeds, next will be another breed or worse yet any dog over 50 pound, then 30 pounds, then any dog period.

It just shocks me more than anything when some congress person gets a wild hair and writes a law like this. And sad, but there is about 30% of the dog wardens in Ohio that are for this law.

Geez, is a two page letter too long to write. LOL! I had a lot to say! I think I need to revise and make it a one page letter.

Is this site care2.com or .net or...? Please advise asap. Thank you very much.

I'm writing an e-mail as we speak. I'll be e-mailing Mr. Widener. That's just crazy. People came to this country to have FREEDOMS, not get them taken away. Those freedoms, include having the pet of your choice. If you're a responsible pet owner and your dog has not had a mancing record with the law, than you should be allowed to live where you want to with your dog. That's aggrivating. UGH! You, George, & the furkids will be in my prayers. ^_^

Freedoms is correct. I just not believe the how stupid congress can be. Research has said don't blame the breed, but the deed. They need stricter laws to get the bad owners under control.

And I already told George that I will move out of state. I will never give up my dogs.

Betty, I passed this on to everyone I know here in Ohio, thanks for alerting me. I am in the process of looking up my congressman to notify him of my opinion. It just sickens me that there is such a lack of knowledge out there about the true nature of the 'pit bull' problem (which is actually an abusive wner problem!).

Bless your heart for researching all that info and posting it so we can act. Bravo, keep us informed!

The HSUS site has all the legislation and actions needed conveniently located on their website. You can sign up for alerts and link to locate your representatives. Email to everyone, not just your specific rep, it'll help spread the word.

Thanks John.

I not only emailed my rep but the speaker of the house, the majority whip, and about 5 other ones. It is completely appauling that they would do this.

And if they do this to pit bulls, what breed will be next. More than likely any dog over 50 pounds, then it will go to any dog over 30 pounds and more.

We need to make sure this bill does not pass.

I hate this breedist BS when I hear it. I can't beLIEVE that people are still thinking that PBs are bad dogs. That's ludicrous. You must be terrified that this dumbass will harm your family. My sincerest cympathies, Betty. And I am praying that this JOKER doesn't get his way.

Ohio already has a Breed Specific law in regards to pit bulls. insurance, proper confinement and more. We don't need to ban them completely.

This is why I am asking anybody who is an animal lover to send an email. Don't care if you are from Ohio or not, send it. Cause I can guarantee that if it passes, neighboring states will be flooded with pit bulls in their shelter if the owners in Ohio can not keep them. I for one will move out of state.

You got it Missy!
