The Benadryl Fiasco

Recently Kelsie was perscribed liquid Benadryl for her skin allergies, since the pills are too strong for her. Well, it's been one heck of a time getting her to take her medicine. It's not a pill so it can't be put in chesse; Dang it. That's how we do her heartworm pill (thank you Betty for that tip!) Anywho, I went to give her the Benadryl with the little syringe like thing that was given to me to give her the medicine. Well, As I squirted it out, she moved her head, and PINK BENDRYL went up the side of me and the couch. I couldn't help but laugh, due to the thought of how ridiculous I must look with PINK spots. But Kelsie was very turned off by the liquid version, and the next time I tried, she hid under the table, like 'Oh no you're not giving me that icky stuff!' I got to thinking, ' what the heck am I gonna put this in to make this an easier task?' Then IT HIT ME, the Peanut Butter Sandwhich incident, SHE LOVES PEANUT BUTTER! It's kind of liquid-y, not like runny, but it's a consistancey I can work with. I tried and SHE LOVES IT! YAY FOR ME, I CONQUERED THE BENADRYL FIASCO!!!!

Next time get the pills and use cheese. Soooooo much easier.

But Peanut Butter does work. It has to be chucky in our house.

The next time we get a med for Kelsie, I will DEFINITELY request the pills, although I had no option this time, since he said the pills were too strong for her as little as she was. But her heartworm med is much easier for me to give to her since it is a pill and we can stick it in some cheese! ^_^ Although with the diva, it HAS TO BE BORDEN CHEESE. No other will do.

My dog harlem who passed away last summer had a favorite "treat" way of getting his pills. Beef Jerky smeared with Peanut Butter. Two great tastes that taste great together????

Oh yeah???? Beef jerkey and peanut butter, yum. LOL I guess to each his own, right! ^_^ But as long as it did the trick to get him to take his meds, that all that counts.

Sorry to hear about Harlem. What breed of dog was he?

He was a Rottweiler - Australian Shepherd mix. He was a great doggie, my "little buddie". he loved to go for drives with his daddy. He and Hrothgar were great pals. They would play fight for hours.

AWW! I bet he was very adorable. Glad that Hrothgar has new buddies to play fight with. I'm sure Harlem's passing was hard for him, too, just like for you and Betty.

I have a furry nephew who is an Australian Shepherd mix, except the other half of him is Lab. His name is Shem. He's a character! ^_^ He's a special needs pooch, he's completely blind. Even though he has this disability, he's very capable of doing lots of things, including gettign into mishcief! LOL

Something about those Aussie mix dogs, they are wonderful.

Harlem was an awesome dog and we do miss him. But he did invent the whole peanut butter/beef jerky thing. Personally, I did not like it. And yet, each time, I would have both pieces of jerky and peanut butter on my fingers and would lick them. Just gross. But it worked for him.

Awww, was Harlem an HSMC furkid? I'm betting he probably was! LOL

Well thanks SO much for that tip!!!!!!!!! Who would have "thunk" !!

Chunky or Creamy?!!

Creamy peanut butter. But I'm sure chunky would work, too. The creamy kind was all I had at the time. ^_^

Kelsie is adorable! The peanut butter hint for medication is a good one! My chiquaqua does not like having her nails cut, so I put a little peanut butter on a spoon and hold her, and she licks the peanut butter off the spoon while my hubby is trimming her nails. It is a good distraction, and works well!

Great idea for nail trimming!!!

That's an interesting idea! That may work with Kelsie, too. I'd like anything that would make her nail trimming time easier.
