Some days you just have to enjoy them

When you've had a hard day at work or school or whatever its so nice to come home to someone who loves you. Yes you have your family and that's wonderful but only a pet can give you a look that just says, I LOVE YOU, I've missed y ou today, spend time with me.
Usually when you just give up and go out and play with them or curl up on the couch with them somehow they just make you feel better. Better about your day, better about the world, better about you in general. Maggie never runs out of energy but I do, and I want to be impatient with her sometimes but I don't allow myself to anymore. Since loosing Little Bear I realize just how short life is, theirs and ours. Even when Maggie has gutted another houseslipper or shredded a cottage cheese lid all over the couch I have learned to laugh about it. It's funny, she really enjoyed it, I have yet another mess to clean up, but I think, someday I'll have actual grandkids who will be much more demanding to handle, (maybe) and go get her real chew bone to play with. Yes they're a pain in the butt but when you take time to enjoy them they can really fill a place in your life like no other.
I can't ever imagine I won't have pets of some kind the rest of my life, I've been dragging home animals since I was old enough to go out in the yard and hear a kitten in the ditch a mile away, just ask my MOM. Everything from dogs to fish lower your blood pressure and stress levels. They say they're healthy for you I can see why.
I watched Ben chase Maggie with a big soft basketball and a mallard stuffed duck around the yard tonight, yep they were funny and frankly I needed that.
