I know that I might get highly ridiculed by many pet lovers if they read this journal, but I'm going to write about my cats getting declawed anyways. They had surgery on April 3 after much discussion with the vet who did the surgery. This was a big decision, but Stars and Stripes kept destroying furniture no matter what disciplinary tactics I used - from a slight pat on the bum, to voice correction, to spraying them with a water bottle. (They are very sassy kitties) So, since their surgery, they have recovered very nicely and the vet even said they fully recovered beautifully. I spent many hours of babying them and even slept with them in the spare bedroom for days after their surgery. Now, they are back to their old selves. I used a litter called "Yesterday's News" which is made out of recycled newspaper. If you ever have this surgery...I highly recommend using that litter. I bought it at the grocery store for less than $5 a bag. My cat's returned to their very loving nature and are still doing very well with the dog. Manny has learned when they hiss, they want to be left alone and he just walks away. If you ever decide to have this elective surgery done to your felines, I highly recommend really talking to your vet first and being their with your pet 100% after the surgery. They need you and I'm soooo pleased my cats fully recovered and are back to normal.

I used the Middle Road Animal Clinic in Pittsburgh, PA. Very wonderful and caring vets and staff there!

We have 2 cats . Our indoor cat, Zoe was left here by the former owners of our house. She is an indoor cat and is not declawed but our outdoor cat is declawed (by a previous owner) and he is quite adventurous. His lack of front claws has not stopped him from climbing trees or defending himself from the many cats in our neighborhood. I'm alright with declawing as long as the fur parent has done their research and is devoted to their fur babies.

I went through a ton of stress over this and I'm sooo happy to see they are back to normal. Of course, the pain meds did play a role in making them seem a little abnormal at the time of surgery. I'm glad to see other kittie owners are supportive and are able to give me some feedback. thank you!

I agree with you on having your cats declawed. If they are indoor cats and don't go outside for any reason they don't need to worry about defending themself. Why let them destroy furniture which cost more to replace.

I feel better that I'm being supported in my decision. When calling Vets to do this procedure they really let me know how they felt. I had to call quite a few before I found a vet that would do the surgery.
