Today was Robby's first visit to the vet. Lizzie had to be run in as well for her annual checkup, and we all know how well she responds to that - she usually foams all over the place and howls like she's dying up until the moment she gets dumped out on the examination table. Then she turns into a rag. But Robby was a mystery. How would he react?
Not well. He escaped our cardboard cat carrier by sheer force and was racing around the car before we even set out. I had to hold the lid down on the way over. Both of them put up a fuss. Lizzie foamed. Robby got carsick. Lizzie flailed her paws through the bars. Robby smushed his face against the air holes and meowed. It wasn't good.
The cardboard carrier held up for the entire trip, but when we were ushered into the examination room Robby came bursting out through a hole he'd made in the side of it. Since he was so eager he got to go first! He apparently tried another escape or two when they were doing bloodwork, weighing and all of that...we have a little Houdini on our hands.
When he came back all he wanted to do was hide in the carrier, his former nemesis. Lizzie got dumped on the table and did her whole rag thing; she just became a limp ball of hair that could be pushed around any which way. The poor little gal was shaking like crazy. She and the others always just sit there when they get their shots, but when it was Robby's turn he did his best to squirm away. He was not a happy camper.
Good news - he tested negative for FeLV and FIV. He is also a surprising 9 something pounds, surprising since we thought he weighed much less. Having to carry Maine Coons does that to your sense of weight.
It is hours after the trip and I'm happy to say the two of them have recovered from the ordeal. Robby is camped out under the couch. Lizzie....well, you can't really tell how much she's recovered since she hates Robby and is having a hissfest all over the place today...
Anyways, it was good to get that visit out of the way. Robby's day can only go uphill from there.
