Mother dogs and Okla cold

In Cherokee County Oklahoma the cold weather takes its toll on newborn puppies. We've had several calls for dog houses, straw and food for stray mothers with small pups since December 10 when the first of the two cold spells hit. Last February I rescued a mother dog living outside. It was brutally cold and when I got there only two of the six puppies were still alive. The others were frozen solid, as they had gotten about two feet away from the mother dog. I'm happy to say that all three were adopted, but I'll never forget those frozen puppies. It's going to be in single digits tonight, so I hope and pray that the stray moms can dig in with their pups and survive.
