2007

2007 was a very tragic year for Romeo and I... I noticed something on his eye - just a small raised spot on his eye - I asked the vets to look at it and they stated it appeared to just be proud fresh - if it grew in size to call them - it did grow - by fall it was twice the orginal size - they took a bio and it was cancer - seems me and my best friend has three options - remove the eye (not an option to me - he was only five), chemo, or laser surgery Auburn Large animal hosptial. We opted for the third option - I drove Romeo seven hours via trailer to what was suppose to be just a week procedure - eye ulcered that night - I had to leave him in the stall - policy at the hospital and I had never left Romeo alone anywhere before - I was back the next morning for visiting hours only to learn of this new development... well long story short - Romeo spent 27 days in the hospital. I had to leave Auburn AL, return home to work after a week and go on the weekends. He did have a wonderful attending Student name Mary who he seemed quite fond of... They finally decided he was healed enough for me to bring him home with IV still in his eye and give him meds at home. He still had two more weeks of stable care and IV after he arrived home. He is fine now and the cancer has not returned - He seems to have full visison in his eye. We are looking forward to the 2008 trail riding season. So don't give up until you explore all possible options for your pet and don't let them give up either. It was hard on Romeo and I being apart - I got a call one day and the attending student stated - I hope we can release him soon, he is laying around a lot and seems depressed ... I felt like a terrible person for leaving him in the hospital and returning to work but I had to pay the bills. I just knew he had to get better and I think he knew it too!

What a great ending to what could have been a tragic story. So glad Romeo has recovered!
