Jiggs

Sweet Jiggs
Jiggs is a 3 year old boston terrier. He is a sweetie, but likes all the attention. He can jump over to what's going on faster than fast. We adopted Jiggs when he was 4 months old and wasn't trained yet. It took us awhile. Jiggs loves attention and to play. His favorite toy is a tennis ball. Can he run and jump.

Jiggs was very very healthy until this winter and he started with hives. He didn't itch at first, but they got worse. For many weeks he had to take benedryl every day for the hives. He was allergy tested and he is extremely allergic to dust mites. Yup. So we are learning to clean differently and are going to have rugs and furniture professionally cleaned. It helps to bathe him more frequently with oatmeal shampoo also. Now that spring is coming to the north country we can open windows and that seems to be helping. If he still has them all the time in a month or so we will give him allergy shots. They say they are quite successful if that is all they are allergic to. He still acted happy and active throughout this so that helped all of us deal with this.

I had an waful time with Max a couple of years ago. I had him on the back deck playing and all of a sudden he yelped and started to act really goofy. I looked all over and couldn't see anything. So I brought him into the house and to let him calm down. About 20 minutes later I had Max into the vets. He was plastered with hives. The vet and I discussed the prior happening during play and we both thought Max had been stung by a bee or bee-like insect. We did the Benedryl and some other combination. I took Max home. At around 10 PM Max was worse. Poor little guy. I called the vet and took Max immediately to Watertown Animal Hospital. The same vet was on so we started another plan of "attack" on the allergy reaction. I This regimen of counter allergens worked. Moral of the story--watch out for bees with your little Boston.

Our Vet thought Holly had some staff infection as she started breaking out in blister-like things, first on her tummy, then her sides and her back. She lost a lot of hair and in being blood tested found her thyroid was low. She takes a tiny thyroid pill every morning and she is just fine now. All her hair grew back in black and shiny and she feels great.
