Hot weather and pups

I have been trying everything possible to keep Charlie cool the last couple of days. He is a big lazy guy- and doesn't really like to go outside.. especially when it's hot. He goes down the stairs, does his business, and is right back at the door- panting like he walked 5 miles.

Does anyone have any tricks on keeping their pup cool in the blistering hot sun?

sam likes to chew, roll around a 20 oz pop bottle with frozen water in it. if she hasnt chewed a hole in it as it starts thawing, i can refreze it and she can use it again. putting it inside a plastic bags so as not to get dog slobbers in the freezer ;o)

Chala stays outside all day while we are at work. She has a kiddy swimming pool outside filled with water which we change once every couple of days. She loves it. Also, we buy her doggy ice cream called "Frosty Paws" Walmart has it. When I fill her water bowl every morning I also put in several cups of ice cubes...it keeps her water cool for quite awhile. Good Luck!

Ice cubes is the best way to cool your lab. My lab hershey loves to eat lots of ice cubes from me & my parents. She can eat ice cubes in the morning & late at night.
Do you have a hose labs loved to get wet thats another way to cool him down.

I give our girls ice cube which they love to chew. It's a nice treat and cools them down.

Keeping my dog cool is a must because he suffers from epilepsy and the heat can trigger a seizure.

He has a kiddie pool that I fill with a few inches of water. Always keep it clean and cold. Get him use to it by playing fetch. Max loves it when I throw the ball in the pool. He jumps right in and lays down before getting the ball to do it all over again.

I just bought a cooling bandanna. (see my review) It put it the freezer and when it is time to go out, I dip it in the pool then put it on him. He loves it.

Inside, the ceilings fans, and air conditioners are on just about 24/7. My bill is high but so is everything else these days.

Max doesn't like this but your dog may. Make ice cubes with chicken or beef broth. Make sure they are mild. I used way too much stock and they were very salty. I tried it when Max wouldn't eat it.

Gool Luck...
