Have you ever found orphaned bunnies??

My daughter had found two orphaned bunnies about 8 years ago in her back yard. She's really great at taking care of " baby " anything. She was going on vacation right after she found the babies so of course I got to take care of them before they were strong enough to be released. My daughter had contacted someone that she knew that's pretty much an " expert" on wildlife and told her exactly where to release them when it was time, a safe place. In the meantime we were given a recipe for bunny formula that I'd like to share just in case you find yourself in the same situation someday.
2 Tablespoons of baby rice cereal
1 Cup of milk
4 Teaspoons of heavy cream
1 Tablespoon plain yogurt
Mix together and refrigerate. Feed by dropper. I would feed at lukewarm temps.
Hope that helps.

Nutrients that they need without their mothers milk. I am so glad that we have the recipe for the " just in case ". Our bunnies thrived.......then my daughter released them where she was asked to.

Most books state that the bunnies you might find that look abandoned probably are not--and it is best to leave them alone (unless you are SURE they are orphaned and too young to be on their own).

I "found" a bunny bed in straw against the side of my house several years ago. There were five bunnies that scrambled when I moved the straw to see what was there. The bunnies looked more like rats or squirrels with big ears! I was able to catch and put four of the five bunnies back in their bed, but I was worried about the stray cats that used to walk through my yard--they would surely smell those bunnies. So, I got the bunnies and put them in a cage on my screened porch and called the wildlife center--and I was told that I should release them (which I did).

These were very small, you could fit them in the palm of your hand. My daughter observed them several days before taking them in. WE have several Wildlife numbers to call for situations such as this......she didn't have to catch them as they were tuckered out and hungry.
