Hang on, HSOV!

Wow, I'll be glad when this contest is over. I'll certainly use the ZooToo forum to keep track of animal news and such, but my pets miss me! Seriously, I just hope HSOV can hold on for the finish and stay in the top 20 (and I wish the same for HSOP). I missed a day on ZooToo yesterday, and HSOV dropped two places! Tell me that wasn't my fault! : )

Smokey is still showing signs of the ear mites he had when I brought him home from the shelter, I'm sure he had them even before he was left there because I got him only 1/2 day after he was left there. I've started the Top Spot flea treatment early this year with my dog Amy so she won't get the mites, and used a natural flea protection with peppermint, lemon grass, and clove oils on Smokey to help get rid of the ear mites that have already spread from his ears.

That seems to be working, but the excretions in his ears got better on one side and worse on another, and if they're not both better by tomorrow, I'll make another vet appointment for Smokey.

Smokey has really been warming up to both Amy and me. He tried nursing on Amy the other day while she was sprawled upside down, and takes every opportunity to rub up against her. Amy is not so warm to Smokey, but she does give his ears a lick every now and then, and when I woke up this morning, she had allowed Smokey to curl up in her bed up against her for the first time.

He's also taken to curling up on my lap for a nap, and he has to get right up in everything I do to observe. I'm wondering if he's picking up anything, and if maybe I can train him. He listens very well, and I've let him out several times with me in warmer weather already and had little problem getting him back inside.

When I let Amy outside to do her thing, he wants to watch, so I hold him up to the window in the door to watch her. If she disappears for a second, he starts meowing and looking at me, as if to ask me where she went. When Amy comes back inside, Smokey is happy and goes to greet her. They're like two peas in a pod.
