Hamsters need to go to the dentist

One day my daughter told me that Sweetie's eye was all crusty and closed up. I called the vets the next day and they said that he probably just got some dust in his eye and not to worry about it. Two days later Sweetie's eye had gobs of green goe coming out and was completly closed. I called the vet again and made an appointment. Beleive it or not, but he had an absest tooth which had to be pulled. He was on an antibiotic for 6 days and was back to his normal self. He lost some of the hair around his eye but it has since grown back. I never would have thought that a hamster would have to go to the dentist.
