Contradiction in euthanasia...

There are so many contradictions in the world that I just don't understand.

Why is it illegal to kill a suffering human being and merciful to kill a suffering pet? Is suffering supposed to be good for people and bad for animals? I know some people think their religion says that people are supposed to suffer, and usually those same religions say that pets don't go to "heaven". If that is true I'd prefer to go wherever the animals go, and actually I'd like to skip the suffering, too.

Is there an answer (outside of religious beliefs) why human beings shouldn't be allowed to put themselves or each other out of their misery? I'm not advocating murder or suicide, just questioning the reason behind it!

You've brought up a very interesting topic. I believe that IF a person is terminal or has an extreme illness/disease where there is no chance of quality, then it should be their decision. I truly do not understand why this is so difficult for the medical and/or legal community to understand. I am positive that there are doctors out there that "get it", but maybe afraid to speak out. Aren't there some states that have actully tossed those ideas around?

I have to gree that there are some out there that "get it" . But unfortunately their hands may be tied. We at least have the option of requesting no extra measures be taken when a loved one is gravely ill.

And yes, we are more humane to our pets than to humans.

I think PART of the problem is that the person may recover if their situation was caused by an accident, Doc's feel they know best and if they think their is one shred of hope they will not take action that would lead to death. I have had a family member in an accident and things could not have been gloomier with him. We had set up a meeting with his Doc's as everytime we had news on him it was worse than the last time. Fortunately for us the day of the meeting there was finally GOOD NEWS and we didn't pursue our intentions as there was hope.
I DO believe that if somebody is suffering and they CHOOSE to end their suffering than the wishes should be granted.
