Your tattoos.............

When my Keisha passed away 8.5 years ago a very dear friend of mine drew a design for me, rather than a picture of Keish herself it is a symbolic dog head of all my beloved animals - home & shelter... took me about 3 years to have the right artist do it for me - I originally wanted it on the inside of my left wrist but he didn't feel it would wear well there so we went with inside left ankle... I have had so many compliments on its beautiful basic black design and am proud to wear this symbol of love... most people on first glance of course think it is Hayley :)
Does anyone else share my love of ink ? Does anyone else have any tats of their pets or symbols for them?

I fully understand the love of ink. It's addicting in a weird painful way. I have a tattoo of a wolf pup on my back that kind of looks like my dog that just passed which I'm very proud of. I also have a tat of 2 greyhounds in mid-stride above a chinese symbol for beloved father that I got in memory of my dad who passed away. We used to have greyhounds that we adopted and fostered, so that was my tribute to him. I love wearing sandals and capri's as that tat is on my outer right ankle and I love receiving compliments on it. Tat's are a great way to immortalize the few cherished people and pets in life.

I have 2. Calf and wrist. My dog Nitro has a natural one on her inner leg of a perfect heart. I guess it's really a skin pigment thing, but we call it her tat.

First, be sure you are comfortable with your artist - if you don't click and they don't "get" what you want from the start, then don't stay. Plenty of great places out there to get inked and many talented people to do it
Second, choose a design that is right and meaningful to you - one of my designs includes the Chinese symbol for niece - my husband and I could not have kids but my nieces mean the world to me - I had to inlcude them in my art just as I did my "dogs"

I love tattoos as well. I don't care how I might look funny when I'm 75 all wrinkly and sagging. Each of my tattoos have meaning and are a part of my life and I will never regret that.

Just this past week, my hubby and I went to the beach with our family. My niece and nephew wanted one of those henna tats. When we were looking at the different designs, we saw some doggie designs and my hubby asked if they had any GSDs. He ended up getting a GSD tat with the name "Duchess" under it. He just loved it and he has now mentioned getting a "real" tat. We will see.

My daughters boyfriend has a t shirt with a yin yang made out of a white dog, black dog, it is so impressive we've talked about having it made into a tattoo for one of us. I have three roses on my left upper chest for my kids tied with a blue ribbon and a palm tree, sunrise and starfish in center of my back, I loved Florida so much I wanted a little pic with me always.

I want one for my Little Bear, I don't know if I can find someone who does photo tats good enough or not though, I'm still deciding.

No tats yet, but I know what I want. Six roses representing my sons, my husband, my deceased father and my deceased father in law. I want them tied together with a ribbon and in the ribbon the words "Pride Runs Deep". No, no one was on a submarine... These are the people I am most proud of. Looking forward to seeing y'alls tats!

Nothing wrong with tats. The choice is yours. If you prefer not to get inked then that's your choice just like somebody chooses to get inked. And as for the age thing, placement is everything!

It's really not that bad - we women are much stronger than men :) when I got my first one on an ankle the artist and I laughed and talked the whole time - meanwhile next to me in a chair was a big guy with big beefy arms getting one done on his outside upper arm - he had tears running down his face - now he was a wuss!

Well it also depends were you get the tattoo done. Some places hurt more then others. But I hate needles. I kinda freak out when I get shots, even though I KNOW they won't hurt.

It's funny...I have wanted a Tat for as long as I can remember, and yet I ever have gotten one.I think the word "permanent" always stuck in my mind, and I could never come up with something that I'd want to see for the rest of my life. lol

It's really not that bad - just pick a "fleshy" place for your first one - anything directly over bone tends to be a little more painful..

I had to recolor my ankle three times. I went to California right after I first get it and the salt water messed it up. They redid for nothing. I just had it recolored a couple years ago. That's when I remembered why I never got another one.

Thank you ... I prefer small designs too - my largest piece is about 5 inches across and from the Book of Kells - I am Irish and researched the book until I found a design I wanted - the unity circle is part of it - it's just over 25 years old now and starting to fade but I don't have the pain tolerance I did when I was youngr - so it will fade right along with me :)

I'm shocked that you're not inked. There are lots that I love as art...love watching the ink shows. Not a fan of just a bunch of unrelated tatoos stuck together. Original designs with some emotional significance are much nicer, as a rule. Myself, I like tribal ink but I'm not a fan of needles.

So where is the picture of the tat?

I have one on my outer ankle. It's not of any of my animals, but I did designed it when still in school. Though I didn't get it until a few years later. It's a black heart with a red rose crossing it and a red blood drop coming from where a thorn hits the heart.

I'll try to get a good pic of it this weekend and get it up here - I have never thought to take a photo of it before - my original design is hanging on my wall - I could always scan that if the ankle photo doesn't come out well !

It's not really that bad now is it ? :) The worst place I've had done was my low back but that was 25 years ago when I could stand pain much better LOL ... I would love to have new color added to that one but doubt that I could handle it now !

I would love to have ink, but I have a connective tissue disease that does not good skin healing and the doctors have said that a tatt would turn into an awful scar. Your design sounds wonderful ... I have never done my own but have always had friends draw them out for me - except for one that I have that is from the Book of Kells everything else was a gift to me from friends - I cherish them all ...
I wouldn't have one either if I were you - can't go against Drs. recommendations - but you should enhance your design and frame it somewhere special to you...

Not yet...but let's see some photos.

I must admit that I am "tatted up" but none yet of Memphis. I thought about it but tattoos are expensive here, in Killeen, so eventually I will. I'm not sure yet if I want to get an actual picture of him on me or his name. If i just get Memphis though, people might be confused. I think I will try to find an artist to draw him out.

it's a great way to start - carry the pic with you until you can find the right person too - it's so important don't you think to connect with your artist... like I said it took me a few years - I'd stop in shops , chat with them and then one day I walked into a shop and this gorgeous pitty pup came wiggling over to greet us - her name - Karma!! Knew I was in the right place...

What kind of dog, if you dont mind me asking, I mean the tattoo.

Sheila
Posted by Sheila (HayleysMom)

It would look like a GSD to most people although it's supposed to represent all breeds - it's a basic black tribal design outline - small blue heart in the center and the dog has a slight smile.....
