Which rescue to pick??!!

Everybody has been asking "which rescue you going to help". Well, I would love to help Doggie Transport Guy (www.doggietransportguy.com) because that is my husband. Go-Paws is the name of our group. George is willing to give up his whole weekend to make sure some pet gets to either its new home or into rescue. And by whole weekend, I am talking leave early saturday morning, drive sometimes 8 or more hours, drop off sometimes right at the person's house, then go sightseeing, stay at a hotel, and come home slowly on sunday stopping any where he thoughts looks cool.
There truly are not too many folks like George willing to drive the distance (and with gas prices as they are), not ask for money, but will take a donation if they give it. And his whole weekend is over.
However, Doggie Transport Guy is not a 501c3 yet and neither is Go-Paws. (Zootoo, I hope you can fix this since some folks have already selected to support him).
We are currently working on our mission and by laws, but put it aside for zootooing for our shelter. I am not sure if it would be done by the end of the contest.
So then my second pick is not yet 501c3. That is Beagles R Us. I have worked closely with Liz for over 7 years now. I love her and could now whip her for not getting down with her 501c3. I know she could use the funds from the contest.
Well, my top 2 picks are out, who do I pick. This will be very hard for me. You see, our shelter works with over 50 different rescues all across the US and Canada. (Remember the doggietransportguy is willing to drive.) Some of the rescues pull more from our shelter only because we end up with more of their breed at our shelter.
How do I pick between so many wonderful rescues. I still don't know. But here is what I am telling everybody else.
If you have a favorite breed of dog, let me know. I will then tell you which rescue of that breed works with our shelter. Then you can support your favorite breed of dog or cat by helping that rescue which is the same rescue who supports the HSMC.
So if you email me, I will give you my pick.
Now as to whom I might be helping. One of my picks might be the Black and Orange Cat Foundation. They are located in Plain City which is half in Madison County and half in Union. It is their mission to fix every stray cat. They work with whole neighborhoods in a trap and release. However, if they get a really friendly feline or kittens, they have foster homes to take them in and adopted them out.
The HSMC works very closely with B&O to the point, we have taken a few kittens from them (they will already have them tested, vaccined, and altered so no cost to us) and we give them extra cat litter and food when we have it.
I really want to try and help a rescue in our county. I just have to find out if they are going to be a part of the Zootoo contest.
Just make sure whatever rescue you pick is one who is willing to help all ages and health of animals. There are a few who will only take the puppies and young ones because they are easier to place. Sorry, but the older and ones in need of medical help deserve a chance. Make sure the rescue has a 100% spay/neuter on all the animals they place. This is very important to getting the pet population under control.
Email me for advice if you want. I will do the best to educate. I will be doing another journal later of the rescues who work really closely with our shelter and I know that they are 501c3.
