What would we do with out Stray Rescue?

I am so excited that Stray Rescue of St. Louis finished in the top twenty! I got involved with Stray Rescue when my good friend Tara started volunteering there. She is so committed to the mission and the animals! I got to see how much of a difference she made in the lives of so many animals and what a wonderful effect her work had on her. She brought feral dogs into her home and transformed them into wonderful pets. She was accomplishing a miracle right before my eyes. She now always has a stray or... three, four. :) and places hundreds of dogs into loving foster homes. A significant amount of her time, energy and gas money goes to the needy dogs of stray rescue.
Her enthusiasm was contagious and I became a volunteer as well. I love going to the shelter to walk dogs, see Tara in action, and witness the wonderful transformations in dogs from frightened and sickly to loving and vibrant.
I even adopted my dog Penelope from a Stray Rescue shelter after falling in love with her and her litter when they were only 5 weeks old. I love what the organization does so much that Tara and I convinced (although pretty easily) my husband (Dr. Joe Holzhauer) and the clinic he practices at (Chesterfield Veterinary Center)to start treating the animals of Stray Rescue when needed. He enjoys the animals and feels proud to be joining the other great vets in a deserving cause.
I recently read "The Miracle Dog" by Randy Grimm (author and founder of Stray Rescue of St. Louis)and "The Man Who Talks To Dogs" about Randy and the plight of homeless animalsin St. Louis and around the country. The books were both inspiring and heartbreaking. A great read for anyone who loves animals!
After reading the books, experiencing the shelters, and seeing volunteers committment to the agency I couldn't be more positive that Stray Rescue of St. Louis should the one out of all the deserving shelters to win the makeover! The organization takes such pride in providing a clean and homey evironment when there is no foster home available at the shelters and they desperatly need updated and more spacious facilities. They could help so many more animals and be proud of the spaces where animals are kept until a foster or forever home is found. The million dollar makeover could not be put to better use or in more caring capable hands!
