What are your Thanksgiving Day plans?

One of my decorations !
We are breaking a tradition this Thanksgiving and ordering our dinner. It does seem odd and we've done it years ago, but this year everyone is dragging. Several of our local super markets offers to cook the entire Thanksgiving dinner for you and it's really very delicious. Of course we will still continue to cook our own " specialites" and try a few new recipes, but the basics will be cooked in advance. By the time that we bought all of the necessities the cost isn't much different. One of my son-in-laws has been asked to cover a few shifts (his second job) at a home for troubled childrenon the holiday so he will be missed. My daughter always does the cooking and I told her this year she is to take a break. I would usually take over the cooking, but I am preparing for anything, including illness. This way, in case one of us is ill, there's still FOOD !

We always go to my husbands sisters but this year it's going to be a bit empty. My step daugther moved to LA and my step son is going out their for Thanksgiving. One good thing is that my Dad is coming to visit from Florida and will be staying with me from Tuesday before Thanksgiving till the following Tuesday. I have friends over the day after Thanksgiving and cook the entire traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Usually there's about 9 to 12 people. I do this because I love left overs.

We are heading over to our oldest daughter's home. She will be cooking. All I will do is make the mashed potatoes and help set the table. She won't let me do more! lol Our middle daughter is coming out with her husband also. So we will have a great time. Only our son and his wife and kids will be missing.

My youngest daughter has done the cooking for several years, but this year she really needs a break. She's a bit down in the dumps that her husband has to leave early........we'll cheer her up. Your day sounds great........does Harry get to " snitch" a little somethin' somethin' ??

Typically, hubby and me would go to Plattsburgh where Crystal and me would cook together. (Mom makes the pies of course, the stuffing, the turkey, the gravy) Crystal peels and does the pototoes, veggies, cranberry sauce, rolls, etc.)

This year, Crystal is helping to serve the Thanksgiving meal at the Salvation Army and then has to be up at like 4:30am to get ready to kick off the bell ringing campaign.

So, instead of her trying to do all of this and spend time with me, I want her to get her rest. She, Harold and Brandon are coming to visit for New Year's instead.

Hubby and me made reservations at the White Stone Cafe. We used to go there before we got married and even a couple years after. They have quite the Thanksgiving buffet.

I'm still going to miss Crystal though...We usually play SCRABBLE after everything is cleaned up...Oh well, New Year's will come soon enough...

I can't believe what Crystal is doing. I was just thinking about how nice that it would be to serve Thanksgiving to people.........good for her, BRAVO......You and Steve will have a grand Thanksgiving too.

Thank you, DevilDawg! Crystal has served Thanksgiving dinner many times. I remember when she was 16, she did it for Equinox in Albany. Then she started doing things that she had to learn the hard way from...Now, for the past couple of years, she has been just who I knew she would turn out to be. I am extremely proud of her. There is not a selfish bone in her body and she has a heart of gold! I will miss her for Thanksgiving but, I know that she is doing something worthwhile...New Year's cannot come quick enough!

Normally I cook. This year we are going over to my daughter's so not only will I not have to cook but I will not have leftovers (darn!). I have wondered how those already cooked dinners are. Let us know how it turns out.

I've had them before and they are good. However nothing beats your own home cooking. I have suggested to my daughter to cook a small turkey of her own and I'll just make more mashed potatoes and stuffing and we'll have plenty of left-overs. We just seem to be worn out this year Lourie and at least we have an option! We have ordered the pies from one of my grandchild's fundraisers.
