What a change..

Among the things I will miss about Arizona, after moving here just under two weeks ago, is the fact that people out here just don't seem as aware that their pets should be treated better.
I'm Prescott, people pampered their animals. Road kill was sparse, very sparse, and this was because people were not as anxious to get their pets out of their hair for a couple hours, so they just let them roam around neighborhoods.
I couldn't believe it. I had been here for no more than two days at my mom's house, when someone dumped two puppies at the end of her street, hoping that someone would pick them up and take care of them. We managed to round up one. He looked to be of cocker spaniel blood. The other, which was surely a chocolate lab, ran from us. He dissapeared, and we later saw him on the side of the road dead. It broke my heart.
My mother says it happens all the time out here.
I just don't understand what crosses a person's mind. And *I* have half a mind to start my own small rescue, or at least see what I can do to volunteer to help someone else out.
Now if I could just find more likeminded people in the area.
