Volunteering at the shelter

I spent the day yesterday at St. Hubert's helping with the new round of testing for the Paws for People pet therapy program. It was a full day and everyone is still exhausted, but well worth it for all the good the program brings to those who need the vists! Congrats to those who passed and joined the program and for those who did not make it, it just means the dog is not ready and needs a little more work. Paws for people is a great program!!!

Elaina, this sounds like a wonderful program! I work with seniors and I can tell you they love and enjoy animals...Especially dogs!

Well, Elessar and I did not pass yesterday, he jumped up on a little girl in a wheelchair to lick her face! He also gets toooo excited when he sees dogs - SO we'll be practicing and will see you all in the fall! (He'll be ready then!) :)

Oh Liz, I feel so bad. He is such a beautiful dog!! It was so great to see all of you yesterday. He was doing so well outside, you really had good control over him on the lawn. I guess the little girl cute and smelling like the pizza she just ate was too much for him, I really can't blame him, he was just saying HI!!!
He will be amazing as a therpay dog, keep up the great work with him! Yes see you in the fall, if not sooner, and come in the morning, it is a bit less hectic then!
Take care!

I was very nervous when Jenna was tested too! So of the people who don't make it take it very hard, the dogs are just not ready or meant for the visits. We were so busy yesterday, and the shelter was so busy. I can not believe how many dogs were adopted since the middle of the week when i was there. St. Hubert's is amazing getting all those dogs adopted! I went to visit Lizzie and she was gone! There was a line outside for the puppies, a line!!!! More are coming from the mid-west Monday. Get ready, another busy week!

I love coming into the shelter on Monday or Tuesday and seeing which faces are there.
I will be shocked with little freckles is still there. He is such a FABULOUS puppy.
I cna't wait to get Sassy tested. I used to love doing therapy work with my Rottie Tyson.

I am trying to get Nico ready for it... he's almost ready - Vinny & Liz said I should try - but Nico can have good and bad days and I want him to be a little more consistent before trying.
